Rigid in this week with lighting issues.

All side lights and rear lights replaced, wiring repaired using waterproof TE connectors, new beacons fitted, and secured correctly with P-clips throughout.

A tidy repair that should stand up to daily fleet use and the British weather.

Scania R450 in the workshop this morning for a few jobs, including lift axle spring eye bushes.

Excessive wear identified during PMI and recalled for replacement — new bushes pressed in and ready to go back to work. 👌

Good to be back in a building cracking on. Luckily we now have enough room to get more than one vehicle in at a time, so while we are waiting for bits for one, we can diagnose an engine fault on the other. 🤘🏼

Another Volvo D11k.

Came in with ongoing intermittent faults. Original issue was logged for the AHI valve.

Fair play to the last guy — he was very close. There was blue tape around the conduit and the wiring failure turned out to be right there.

Repaired the break, but I never just clear faults and send it out. Gave it a proper run and kept testing…

Sure enough, the inlet NOx sensor started playing up. So that was replaced as well.

While digging around I also found the exhaust harness packed full of mud and water, so that’s been replaced to stop it coming back again.

Intermittent faults this time of year are usually down to moisture and corrosion sneaking in somewhere.

Another one sorted 👍

Another Volvo set of coolant pipes — Volvo D13 on a 57-plate.

Nice change for everything to actually come undone without a fight… apart from the one intercooler/header tank bolt that every Volvo tech knows too well 😅
A bit of gentle heat and it was plain sailing from there.

Good reminder that they don’t make them like they used to — solid bit of kit and still going strong.

Steady progress and back together the right way 👍

This was a new one… Volvo FE(3)

Customer reported pressure in the coolant system and steam from the engine bay.
Radiator replaced due to a leak and system bled, but the issue was apparently still there — despite no overheating or coolant loss.

Plugged in for another fault, spotted a thermostat code, so out it came for a look…

Turns out the thermostat had been fitted upside down 🤦‍♂️
Even the best parts don’t work properly when they’re trying to defy gravity.

🚛 Volvo FH4 – Intermittent Electrical Faults 🚛

Bit of a curve ball on this one.

Truck came in with a mix of intermittent faults including:

• Trailer ABS
• Rear suspension solenoid
• OSR tail lamp

Initial checks found some corrosion in the fuse box, but nothing that screamed “this is it”.
Further inspection then found a heavily corroded wire above the rear axle, which looked like it was the culprit.

After repairs, the truck was left running and the suspension operated, but another fault then appeared. At one point it even logged a DACU fault, which didn’t help matters.

More digging eventually found a second broken wire near the EBS ECU — part of the wiring for the RCIOM. I’ve never understood why they send the power wires up and then back down, but it was clearly part of the problem.

Both wiring faults repaired and connections sorted, finally getting to the root cause.

Just shows how intermittent electrical faults can have more than one issue hiding, and why proper testing matters.
