Not all armoured cables are the same.

Armoured cables are specifically designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, extreme temperatures, and mechanical stresses. However, factors such as installation environment, application, and whether low smoke, zero halogen performance is needed can all influence which armoured cable you choose.

Prysmian manufactures a range of armoured cables that ensure exceptional performance and longevity in all kinds of challenging conditions.

Preventing premature collapse of wiring systems is crucial for safety and efficiency.

By working with technical experts from the BEAMA Cable Management Technical Committee, Prysmian is backing safe and effective support of cables and cable systems, helping to develop practical guidance for the design, installation and inspection of cable management systems.

This updated guidance is in response to the UK Government’s call for support in implementing the recommendations included in the ‘Building A Safer Future – An Implementation Plan’ (2018).

The new document aims to ensure more robust standards in electrical installations and can be downloaded here: https://www.beama.org.uk/resourceLibrary/beama-premature-collapse-cable-guide-2026.html

Can you paint FP cables? 🔥

Painting FP cables seems to be the easiest way for them to blend into their surroundings but it’s not recommended. ❌

Fire performance cables are tested and certified in their original manufactured condition, which means painting them can:

▪️ Affect long term performance
▪️ Obscure important ID markings
▪️ Make future inspections trickier

So, what are the alternatives? Some options include using containment systems where appropriate or speaking to Prysmian about bespoke sheath colours. 🎨
