❄️ Freeze Drying 101: What Works Best (and What to Skip!)
Freeze drying is a fantastic way to preserve food—but not every food behaves the same. Here’s our guide:
Foods That Freeze Dry Best ✅
Fruits: Berries, apples, bananas, mango, pineapple – high sugar content helps retain flavour
Vegetables: Carrots, peas, corn, spinach, beetroot – pre-blanching improves results
Proteins: Cooked meats, eggs, and full meals freeze dry well
Dairy & Sauces: Yogurt, cheese, soup bases, and sauces freeze dry beautifully
Herbs & Flowers: Perfect for long-term storage and cooking
Foods to Avoid ❌
High-fat foods: Butter, avocado, oily nuts – fat doesn’t freeze dry well
High-water desserts: Gelatin desserts, custards – may collapse during drying
Soft cheeses & cream-heavy foods: Can become crumbly or greasy
💡 Tip: Pre-chop, blanch, or cook foods when necessary for the best results.
Freeze drying locks in flavour, colour, and nutrients, so you can enjoy your homegrown produce year-round! 🌱🥕🍓
