"The Discovery session.."
There is no end goal, there is no starting plan.. there are no rules, (-besides basic commonsense respect- like don't harm others or things)
It's exactly what it says- a discovery session.. a chance to play with and explore, and discover various materials in whatever way suits their current play schema and age and needs..
Each week brings a new material or set up.. each session is filled with children of various ages and ability - both Sen and Non sen children that come with different ideas, different imaginations at different stages and levels and every child walks away whaving gotten something from it, even when they just observe others play. Don't be fooled by thinking your child isn't getting anything from it, or your child is bored or your child isn't interested - they all get there at different speeds and it's walking away too soon, or stopping attendance that prevents a child from getting there in their own time.. they will suprise you it just may take a little time.. and that's ok!
Here's what our own little lot got up to today.. 🥰 sequencing, construction, deconstruction, transportation, trajectory, rotation, enclosing and enveloping and transformation play schemas seen throughout the session in a variety of ways can you spot them?
Language, physical education, maths, PSE, art, DT, working on Gross and fine motor skills and more from the EYFS were all covered today, and all we did was fill a hall with cardboard, tape, stickers and colouring pens/pencils.. 💚
