🔷 WE’RE HIRING — 360° TELEHANDLER OPERATOR 🔷

Thorburn Group is looking for an experienced 360° Telescopic Forklift Operator to join our Duns-based steel er****on team.

You’ll be operating a 360° telehandler on construction sites, lifting and positioning steelwork, materials and equipment to support our steel erectors.

What we’re looking for:
✔ Valid CPCS or NPORS card covering 360° telehandler operation
✔ Experience in steel er****on or heavy construction
✔ Strong understanding of safe lifting and load handling
✔ A reliable, safety-conscious approach and good teamwork skills

Another grain store extension completed by the team! 🌾🔨

Conor, Zak & Davie have been busy erecting this 5-bay grain store extension, measuring 30m long x 18m wide, with 6m to the eaves.

- 15° roof pitch
- Galvanised valley gutter between the existing and new building
- Vent-air cladding to both gables and sides
- Fibre cement roof cladding with vented ridge
- Timber sheeting rails
- Galvanised roof purlins
- 1.4m x 1.4m Lishman ventilation fan installed to provide additional airflow and ventilation

The combination of vent-air cladding, a vented ridge and the Lishman fan provides an effective ventilation system for the grain store, helping maintain good airflow throughout the building.

🏗️ Another bespoke build completed by the Thorburn Group team!

Our team — Mark, Ainslie, Micky & Davie — have completed this general-purpose mono-pitch building, designed and erected around the existing buildings.

The 9m x 11m structure features a 10° roof pitch, 3.6m eaves height and Juniper Green cladding, creating a practical and hard-wearing space while working seamlessly around the existing structures. Gates soon to be installed too. 👀

A great example of a bespoke solution designed to make the most of the space available.

🧱 Retaining Wall & Concrete Works – Another Project Complete ✅

This project started with an existing block retaining wall that had deteriorated and eventually collapsed after years of corrosion, water damage and washout.

We stripped everything back, excavated the failed section and dug into the banking, including new post holes ready for the installation of galvanised steel posts and retaining panels.

To prevent future water build-up and washout, we installed a French drain around the base of the retaining panels, incorporating 40mm clean drainage gravel to allow water to flow freely away from the structure.

♻️ Where possible, we reused the existing materials on site. The stone from the collapsed wall was crushed and reused, allowing us to build back up from the original structure while reducing unnecessary waste.

The banking was then rebuilt and compacted in layers, bringing it back up to the required height and creating a stable foundation.

Once the ground was prepared, we installed Type 1 sub-base and levelled everything ready for the new concrete floor. The finished slab was constructed at 150mm thick with reinforced mesh, providing increased strength, stability and durability for the years ahead.

From a failed and washed-out wall to a fully rebuilt retaining structure, improved drainage and a reinforced concrete slab.

Another job completed with longevity and durability in mind. 💪

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Setting Out Engineer to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a wide range of construction projects, ensuring foundations and structures are accurately set out, surveyed and checked before and during construction.

Key Responsibilities:

✅ Setting out building foundations and structures from construction drawings
✅ Measuring and surveying existing structures and site features
✅ Checking existing buildings and steelwork for dimensional accuracy against drawings
✅ Producing accurate site measurements, levels and survey data
✅ Marking out works using GPS and surveying equipment
✅ Identifying and reporting discrepancies between drawings and site conditions
✅ Liaising with site teams, project managers and clients
✅ Maintaining accurate records, survey information and as-built data
