💜 World Menopause Day | Raising Awareness in the Workplace 💜

As part of our commitment to health and wellbeing, our team recently took part in an informative session delivered by Siobhan Kearney from — a passionate advocate and champion for menopause awareness.

We believe that everyone deserves to feel supported, understood and empowered in the workplace. Through our menopause policy and access to helpful information and resources, we aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment where colleagues feel comfortable seeking support throughout their menopause journey.

NUGENT are proud to have delivered the MEP package for GRAHAM on the landmark Alkerden C of E Academy development in Ebbsfleet Garden City, Kent. 🧑‍🎓

Alkerden Academy became one of the largest education facilities in Kent, occupying an impressive 11.1-hectare site and providing more than 2,200 places for primary and secondary school pupils.

The campus comprised an eight-form-entry secondary school extending to five storeys, alongside a two-form-entry, two-storey primary school. Facilities included a sixth-form campus, nursery provision and a 25-place specialist resource provision for autistic pupils. The development also featured dedicated art, technology, science and music studios, an industry-standard community sports centre, 4G football pitches, car parking and associated access roads.

Designed and constructed to high environmental standards, the project incorporated BIM Level 2 processes and achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating. The sustainable design included advanced mechanical and electrical systems, including MVHR and NVHR technologies, windcatchers and energy-efficient LTHW systems.

NUGENT successfully delivered the MEP package across the development, with key works including:

- Electrical switchboards, distribution systems, earthing and protection installed throughout.
- Energy metering, BMS integration and solar PV systems installed to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
- LED lighting, DALI controls, emergency lighting and external lighting installed throughout.
- Small power, ICT, CAT6A cabling and OM4 fibre networks installed.
- Access control, CCTV, intruder alarms and fire alarm systems installed and commissioned.
- Disabled refuge, WC alarms and hearing induction loops installed.
- BMS and mechanical services power and controls integrated.
- MVHR and HVAC systems installed and commissioned throughout the academy.
- Off-site manufactured plant rooms delivered and positioned on site.
- Primary school windcatchers installed and commissioned.
- External LTHW pipework, trace heating and ventilation grilles installed.
- Sprinkler systems and pump house completed.
- AOV and smoke shaft systems installed throughout.
- Sanitaryware final-fix works completed.
- Science laboratory services installed, including LTHW, sprinklers, ventilation and CAT 5 BCW systems.

A fantastic project to have been part of, demonstrating NUGENT’s commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable MEP solutions on landmark developments.

World Mental Health Day at NUGENT 🌍 💚

To mark this year’s World Mental Health Day, we invited our colleagues to take a break, enjoy a hot breakfast together and spend some dedicated time connecting with one another. It’s something we can all struggle to make time for, especially when work gets busy and hectic.

Taking regular breaks and staying connected with others can help support our mental wellbeing and reduce the risk of burnout. That’s why we continue to prioritise the mental and physical health of our colleagues throughout the year through a range of activities and initiatives.

We also place great emphasis on training our staff as Mental Health First Aiders, providing a supportive first point of contact for colleagues who may find it difficult to take that first step and talk about their mental health. Alongside this, our colleagues can access support through our healthcare provider, including specialist services such as therapy.

At NUGENT, we believe that looking after our mental health starts with creating a supportive environment where people feel comfortable taking a break, connecting with others and reaching out for support when they need it. 💚

It was an early start at the weekend, for our Specialist Works division, working on the new Staycity Aparthotel in Belfast City Centre. ☀

Working alongside Beattie Crane Hire, one of our plant units was carefully manoeuvred onto the roof of the new development. 👷

We’re excited to continue working alongside main contractor Killowen Contracts Ltd, delivering the M&E services for this exciting BREEAM-compliant development. The project involves the extension, alteration and full refurbishment of an existing eight-storey building, transforming it into a high-quality 96-room aparthotel. 🏢

Just a week ago, NUGENT were proud to host our Charity Golf Day at Killymoon Golf Club, Cookstown, to raise vital funds for Alzheimer's Society.

The event brought together 21 fourball teams from across our supply chain network for a fantastic day of golf, fundraising and team spirit. The golf day built upon our continued efforts to raise £30,000 by the end of the year, and following the event, we’re delighted to say that we have surpassed this target, with £40,014 raised to date!

During the dinner and prizegiving ceremony, our Managing Director, Ryan Nugent, announced that NUGENT are now committed to reaching an ambitious target of £50,000 by the close of 2026.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Killymoon Golf Club for their premier facilities and excellent course, which our teams thoroughly enjoyed competing on.

To all our sponsors, participants and players, your support and generosity are truly appreciated. To Louise from the Alzheimer’s Society, thank you for your time and speech to our attendees to raise awareness of what the charity’s mission is. To the vendors on the day and setup – CR Print, Castle Awards, Rockwell Water, Viti Pizza, The Den Gazebos and Denise Leacock Photography – thank you once again for your fantastic services and contribution to the event.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Apprentices – Lorcan, James, Cohen, Josh, Anthony, Connor and Ross! 👏

Alongside their academic studies, it is vitally important that our Apprentices gain real-world industry skills and knowledge. That is why our entire cohort is involved in live projects, including Dundonald Ice Bowl, QUB iReach, Strule Shared Campus (Omagh High School), as well as a number of exciting upcoming projects.

Our two Quantity Surveyor students will be working alongside our QS department and experienced team, gaining valuable practical skills and industry knowledge while continuing their studies. 🧑‍🎓

HR Business Partner, Rory Fox, said: “We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new students. The Apprentices are eager to learn, which is fantastic to see, and we look forward to seeing them progress academically with their colleges while developing their skills on site. At NUGENT, we are passionate about Apprenticeship programmes within our team, with over 25 students currently enrolled across all stages, from first year through to final year.”

NUGENT is enthusiastic about welcoming Mechanical and Electrical sector Apprentices to our growing team. An Apprenticeship is an excellent opportunity to study and learn on the job while developing a broad range of industry knowledge and practical skills. Apprentices commit to their college training alongside the demands of their day-to-day role on site. 🧰 💡

Each Apprentice is allocated a dedicated Site Supervisor who acts as their on-site mentor, providing guidance, support and training throughout their Apprenticeship programme. Upon successful completion of the programme, Apprentices are offered the opportunity to progress into full-time employment with NUGENT.
