What is a Zero Energy State?

When working on a fluid power system the most important factor is that the work is undertaken in a safe manner.

Steps must be taken to prevent injury to yourself and others working in the area.

Before starting work on a hydraulic system, among other things, it is essential that checks are made to confirm a zero energy state.

This subject is covered in the Fluid Power Safety section of our hydraulics on-line training course.

In addition to providing fluid power training, G. Elliott Hydraulic & Mechanical Engineering Ltd are a company who specialise in the design, manufacture, and installation of hydraulic and pneumatic operated equipment, and systems.

After the equipment and hydraulic systems have been installed and commissioned we undertake on-site training, for operatives , and the maintenance staff. In addition, we provide an operation and maintenance manual. This includes details of how the equipment, and/or system operates, recommended maintenance procedures, and flow diagrams to assist with fault diagnosis and rectification.

Site Specific Training.

Modern hydraulic systems are becoming much more complicated, generally are reliable, and provide trouble free operation. However, when a fault occurs the time taken to resolve and rectify it, lost product time, and associated costs can be excessive. Access to the information related to the system can be difficult to find or does not exist.
We at G. Elliott Hydraulic and Mechanical Engineering believe that with the use of a smart phone or tablet being able to access the information, whilst dealing with the system, via a dedicated app, could dramatically reduce the time and cost to resolve a fault. In addition the source and location of a defective component can be shown. Information can be modified and further items added, as required.
Please don't hesitate to contact us if you want t know a little more about our site specific training products, by telephone +44 07144 89977 or by email at [email protected]

Every time a fault occurs within a hydraulic system everyone is under pressure to get it resolved:-

a) As quickly as possible.
b) To limit the loss of production time.
c) To achieve it with the minimal costs.

The video illustrates a fault we recently rectified during a site visit.

Could you, or a member of your staff, have resolved it, based upon the information that was provided?

If you want the dramatically reduce to cost and time to rectify hydraulic faults, and more importantly, prevent it from happening again, why not complete our hydraulics training course.

G. Elliott Hydraulic and Mechanical Engineering would like to thank everyone who completed our "Test your Hydraulics Knowledge" Quiz. Unfortunately, the majority of of them failed to answer sufficient questions correctly. This indicates that they didn't possess the ability to understand basic hydraulic principles, be able to read a hydraulic circuit diagram and could quickly resolve problem within a hydraulic system. The video shows some of the questions that are answered incorrectly. Can you answer them correctly?

As we know over 85% of hydraulic system failures are caused by fluid contamination. In addition to solid contamination, heat, liquids(water), and the inclusion of air and other gases within the fluid can also contaminate the oil. Sometime people just look at the oil and say its clean, However, as the contaminate that produces the most danger cannot be seen by the naked eye, just looking at it cannot determine the actual level of solid contamination that exists within it.

We have identified the importance of ensuring that the contamination within the oil is maintained at an acceptable level. To this end we have developed an online course dealing with contamination control. The video outlines the subjects covered within the course. We are currently in the process of adding details of the course to over website. However, please don't hesitate to contact us if you require further information by email at [email protected], or by telephone on 07714 489977

The start of a new year for us has always been our busiest period and 2024 has begun with trips to Wales and Ireland.

These planned trips coincide with the shutdown periods for three of our clients. Working alongside key members of staff whilst production is paused allows for major refurbishments, replacements and a deeper level of service and maintenance to take place.

Some of the planned works carried out have included:

Running Efficiency of Pumps

General Servicing & Maintenance of Parts

Fault Finding & Rectification

Upgrades to outdated parts and/or equipment

Fluid Contamination Testing & Oil Analysis

Over the years' we have found that ongoing training for the in-house maintenance of such operations has been little or non existent. Many engineers, in fact, having a lack of basic hydraulics knowledge which results in longer periods of production downtime whilst external suppliers are called out to diagnose and rectify issues.

We have spent the last 18 months developing and launching our flagship hydraulic systems course - an online course accessible 24/7 and containing all the basic hydraulics information an engineer requires and setting them up to be able to fault find, diagnose and rectify problems. As well as this we offer online training support in the form of training sessions and group training days.

If you’re interested in upgrading your engineers hydraulics knowledge or perhaps planning your 2024 training email [email protected] or visit our website www.hydmechltd.com for more details about our products and services.

What Can You Expect From our Trainings?

Our ONLINE HYDRAULICS COURSE offers practical support to engineers looking to expand their knowledge via our online portal - giving access 24/7 and an opportunity to learn and complete 12 hours of CPD in your own time.

REMOTE GROUP TRAININGS

We also offer group trainings for businesses who are looking to cut down lengthy operational down time and assist engineers knowledge of being able to fault diagnose and rectify in-house, quickly.

Remote group training is offered via teams or zoom. Times and dates for the training is delivered in stages and is arranged to suit the customer needs. If required, this can also occur outside normal working hours to suit when course members are at work. Everyone in attendance has access to downloadable notes plus visual and audio contact with us which provides the opportunity for realtime live Q&A.

ON-SITE TRAINING PROVIDER

We also offer on-site training for groups to learn in a classroom based environment at work. When the course is conducted on-site each attendee will receive a full set of course notes and the opportunity to be a part of realtime live Q&A’s.

After completing the hydraulic training, tuition of site specific systems can be also be added to the training package for future sessions.

This would include, the hydraulic circuit diagram, site specific method of operation, system maintenance, and fault diagnosis.
