Sarah has already been getting hands-on in her new role and is enjoying discovering more about our machinery and processes. She says:

What does an internship at Millitec really involve? 👀

It depends on where you are in the business:
🔹 Design Department – Creating and refining engineering solutions using tools like SolidWorks
🔹 Build Department – Bringing designs to life through machine assembly and hands-on work

For interns like Muhammad and Edelline, it’s about precision design and technical development.

For Essa, it’s about seeing engineering in action and understanding how everything comes together.

Together, they’re gaining a full picture of engineering – from concept to completion.

Meet Edelline 👋

Before joining Millitec, Edelline had led a design engineering group focused on assistive devices and completed a placement in Indonesia, gaining experience in procurement and project management.

She wanted to enhance her technical design skills, which led her to Millitec.

Since starting her internship, she’s been:
✔ Designing a tray/guard for production using SolidWorks
✔ 3D printing
✔ Developing hands-on engineering skills daily.

She says the experience has surpassed her expectations, adding:
“I learn something every day.”

Edelline is passionate about using engineering to help people and hopes to work in sustainability, healthcare, or energy in the future 🌍

In her spare time, she enjoys reading fiction, drawing and volleyball 📚

Meet Muhammad 👋

Originally from Italy, Muhammad moved to the UK at 17 and took a determined path into engineering - choosing a degree that would challenge him and open doors.
After completing a placement in a production office, he realised he wanted to dive deeper into design engineering. That’s what brought him to Millitec.

So far, he’s been working with SolidWorks, developing skills in:
✔ Sheet metal modelling
✔ Bend tables
✔ Product rendering

He’s also gaining valuable insight by collaborating with our Mechanical Design Engineer, learning about real-world design processes and problem-solving.

Muhammad says the experience has been “100% helpful” in shaping his career goals, with his sights set on becoming a Chartered Engineer.

Outside of work, you’ll find him playing football, running, or spending time with friends ⚽

Meet Essa 👋

Essa is a first-year engineering student at Canterbury Christ Church University, currently exploring his interest in mechanical engineering.

Eager to gain real-world experience early in his studies, he joined Millitec to get hands-on exposure – and he’s been making the most of it.

Working primarily in our Build Department, Essa has been:
✔ Supporting the assembly of machines
✔ Learning how components come together in practice
✔ Seeing engineering theory brought to life
✔ Assisting in stores and understanding the full build process

He’s particularly enjoyed understanding why specific parts are used and how each step contributes to the final build.

Essa describes the experience as:
“Amazing and an eye opener… I’ve really learnt a lot already and it’s been a great opportunity.”

Outside of work, he enjoys football, the gym, Muay Thai, and spending time with friends and family ⚽💪

We’re excited to introduce our engineering interns for 2026 – Muhammad, Edelline, and Essa 👏

All three are gaining hands-on experience at Millitec, but across different areas of the business:
🔹 Muhammad & Edelline – Mechanical Design Engineers in our Design Department
🔹 Essa – Electromechanical Engineer in our Build Department

From designing in SolidWorks to working directly on machines, they’re developing practical skills and exploring different paths within engineering.

They’ve already shown great enthusiasm and curiosity, and we’re proud to support them as they take the next steps in their careers.

It’s fantastic to see the new bridge at Britannia Mills officially opened in Long Eaton – a major step forward for local connectivity and regeneration.

The project, part of the £25m Town Deal investment, will cut journey times for residents and provide a vital link across the Erewash Canal, especially for the growing community at the former industrial site.

We’re especially proud to see our MD, Richard Ledger, who chairs the Long Eaton Town Deal Board, play a key role in bringing this project to life and marking its opening.

Richard said:
"There are more than 100 new affordable homes at Britannia Mills, which was the site of an old lace-making complex.

"The now thriving community there will be overjoyed to make use of this new bridge near Canal Street. It halves the previous mile-long distance between canal crossings."

A great example of partnership, investment and leadership coming together to deliver meaningful infrastructure for the community.
