Eggleston Steel Ltd Eggleston Steel Ltd was established in 1809 and has earned a reputation amongst its customers for ex Eggleston Steel Ltd (formally Eggleston Bros. Ltd.) Ltd.

is one of the oldest companies in Derby, dating back to 1809. The company started life as part of Joseph E. Hunt's Ironmongers, purchased by Mathias Eggleston for sons, Walter and George. The brothers worked together in the Iron Bar Warehouse until 1914, after which Walter continued on his own, taking over John Beatson & Son, Railway Engineers. In 1932, the two businesses were amalgamated to form Eggleston Bros. & Beatson, concentrating wholly on iron and steel trading. As demands changed, the main stock of wrought iron gave way to black and bright mild and alloy steels, which were required by the majority of customers. During both World Wars many businesses suffered but Eggleston was provided with enough work to survive. Business improved further after the Second World War when a raft of confusing legislation led to a growth of the market share for stockholders. Walter Eggleston died in 1950 and the business passed to his nephew Joseph Eggleston Burrows. Known as Seph, he was the last person in the business to bear the name Eggleston. Larger premises were required the company moved to Stuart Street in 1964 and changed its name to Eggleston Bros. Seph died in 1977 and another family member, Tony Hewitt, took over. In the intervening years, despite a steel strike and two trade recessions, the company continued to expand to meet demand. In the mid-90's Eggleston Bros implemented a quality assurance system gaining a UKAS accredited BS5750 certification in 1996. The company has maintained continuous certification to this day, currently as ISO9001. Tony Hewitt retired in 2000 and his son Richard became MD. By the millennium, the company had outgrown the Stuart Street site and relocated in 2003 to larger premises in Alfreton Road increasing its stock range to meet the demand. Eggleston Steel is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Profile Sales Estimator to join our team in Derby.

This is a hands on role combining basic CAD work, customer quotations and order processing. It’s ideal for someone who is keen to learn, enjoys practical/technical tasks, and likes working with customers and colleagues.

What does the role involve?

•Learning to use CAD (Computer Aided Design) software to create simple drawings and parts for our CNC machinery.

•Helping prepare clear and accurate quotations for customers.

•Converting quotations into confirmed orders once approved.

• Using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word) for day to day tasks.

•Working closely with colleagues to make sure customer requirements are understood and processed correctly.

•Keeping a strong focus on accuracy, quality and attention to detail.

What are we looking for?

•Someone willing to learn CAD — no experience needed, full training provided.

•Any understanding of CAD or design software is a bonus, but not essential.

•Previous experience with Sigma or SolidWorks is helpful, but not required.

•A good team player who communicates well with colleagues and customers.

•Confident, friendly and able to communicate clearly in writing and verbally.

•Motivated, organised and keen to develop new skills.

•Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).

This is a varied role combining CAD design, customer quotations and order processing, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both technical work and working with customers and colleagues.

What does the role entail?

This is a permanent position working Monday to Friday.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating laser cutting machinery safely and efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and productivity within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities
• Operating flat bed laser machinery
• Loading and unloading materials safely
• Monitoring machine performance and production quality
• Carrying out routine machine checks and basic maintenance
• Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised working environment
• Working collaboratively with the wider team to meet deadlines and targets
• Performing other tasks associated with the Warehouse Operative rol

What We Are Looking For
• Experience within the steel industry is advantageous, although full training will be provided for the right candidate

• A strong team player who can also work independently
• Good written and verbal communication skills
