🔐 PRODUCT OF THE WEEK: WHICH LOCK?

Think all door locks are the same? Think again!

There are plenty of options, so here’s a quick guide to help you choose:

🔑 MORTICE DEADLOCK – The straightforward option. A key-operated lock that’s fitted into the edge of the door. Great when you simply need a secure lock.

🚪 MORTICE SASHLOCK – Similar to a deadlock, but with a latch too. Ideal for doors that need to be opened with a handle but also locked with a key.

🔒 EURO CYLINDER – A popular choice for modern doors. The cylinder can be easily replaced without changing the whole lock – handy if you need to change the key.

✨ DIGITAL LOCKS – No key? No problem! Depending on the type, doors can be opened using a code, card, fob or other electronic method. Great for controlled access.

🔥 FIRE DOOR? Make sure the lock you choose is suitable for use on a fire door and forms part of the correct overall fire door specification.

We are sooooo close to reaching 1,000 followers here on Facebook… but actually, we’d love your help to go much further than that if we can! 💚

🏏🏆 What a night! 🏆🏏

We were really proud to be at Derbyshire County Cricket Club on Friday evening as the official sponsors of the Bayley Cup.

It was a pleasure for Ray Garlick, CEO and Dawn Frisby, HR/HSE Director to present the medals and trophy to the winning team, Chellaston 1st XI. Congratulations to them - thoroughly deserved 👏🏆

There was some great cricket, a brilliant atmosphere and, as if the evening couldn’t get any better, we were treated to a cracking sunset over the pitch. 🌅🏏

A big well done to everyone who took part and helped make the tournament such a success. We’re really pleased to support local sport and grassroots cricket here in Derbyshire. 💙

A hinge is a hinge… right? WRONG! 😅

There are more types than you might think, so here’s a quick guide to a few of the most common:

🔩 BUTT HINGES – The classic, everyday hinge used on many internal and external doors.

⚙️ BALL BEARING HINGES – Ideal for heavier doors or doors that get a lot of use, providing a smoother operation.

🔥 FIRE-RATED HINGES – Designed for use on fire doors and an important part of the overall fire door specification.

🚪 PARLIAMENT HINGES – Great when a door needs to open wider and clear an architrave or obstruction.

✨ CONCEALED HINGES – Hidden from view when the door is closed, giving a cleaner, more modern look.

⬆️ RISING BUTT HINGES – Designed to raise the door slightly as it opens, useful where floor clearance is needed.

❤️ Our defibrillator is now in place! ❤️

We’re really pleased to let our local community and neighbouring businesses know that the defibrillator kindly donated to us by the KC Trust is now fitted and ready to use on the front of our building.

Hopefully it’s something that will never need to be used, but having a defibrillator readily accessible in the local area could make a life-saving difference in an emergency.

A huge thank you to the KC Trust for their generous donation and for helping us make our workplace and the surrounding community a little safer. 👏

🔧 PRODUCT OF THE WEEK: DOOR CLOSERS

There are a LOT of different types of door closers… and a LOT of information! 😳

So, grab a cuppa, get comfy and let’s make choosing the right one a little less confusing! 😂☕

🔩 OVERHEAD RACK & PINION
One of the most common types. Surface mounted at the top of the door and suitable for a wide range of commercial and general applications.

🚪 CAM-ACTION
Offers lower opening resistance, making the door easier to operate. A great choice where accessibility is important, such as schools, care homes and public buildings.

✨ CONCEALED
Want your door closer to do its job without being seen? These are fitted within the door or frame and are ideal where appearance is important.

⚡ ELECTROMAGNETIC
Allows a door to be held open during normal use, but releases when the fire alarm activates so the door can close. Handy in busy areas.

🏢 FLOOR SPRING
Fitted into the floor rather than mounted on the door, making them a neat, almost invisible option. Often used with larger or full-height doors in shops, offices and hotels.

And then there are the features to think about…

🔹 Backcheck – helps prevent the door being thrown open too far or too violently.

🔹 Delayed action – slows the closing of the door, giving people more time to pass through.

🔹 Latch action – provides extra closing force towards the end of the closing cycle, helping overcome latches and seals.

🔥 Fire door? Getting the right closer is particularly important. The correct size and specification will depend on the door and its intended use.
