Our niche vehicle customer needed to develop a strong, lightweight chassis solution while working within tight clearance requirements.

We created a 64 × 33 mm oval section, formed from cold-drawn seamless ROPT510®, with a 2.64 mm wall thickness, produced on a next-day turnaround.

A great example of how specialist tube forming can provide the strength and geometry required when standard sections simply won’t work.

We’re pleased to announce an exciting development for ProFormance Metals and our oval tube product range.

Following the retirement of the owner of Oval Tubes (UK), we have acquired the company’s specialist oval tube tooling and manufacturing machinery to add to our existing profile machine.

The additional tooling will strengthen our ability to support customers looking for Stainless Steel and Mild Steel Oval Tube in applications such as

Higher strength compared to mild steels
700 Mpa minimum tensile

Higher yield strength
590 MPa minimum means the tube can withstand considerably higher stresses before permanent deformation.

Potential weight reduction
The higher strength allows thinner walls and/or smaller sections.

Seamless construction
Cold-drawn seamless tube gives a high-quality tubular product without a weld seam

Excellent weldability
No preheating or stress relieving, making it more straightforward to fabricate than some high-strength alloy steels.

Good formability
16% minimum elongation is useful for a high-strength structural tube, particularly where bending/forming is involved.

Proform®700 is the latest addition to our high-performance cold-drawn seamless tube range. The Carbon-manganese steel properties allow Tig and Mig Welding methods, without requiring preheat or stress-relieving processes.

We are often asked for the 35mm x 35mm x 2.5mm box section for seat rails.

The regulations stipulate that the cross member must be a square extruded section.
Steel is not produced by the extruding method, so we are unable to supply a box section that meets that rule.
