Halston Engineering

Halston Engineering On receiving conformation of the premises at Gardiner place Newtongrange. Which was really the making of the company in those days.

Originally started trading as Halston technical services engineering (Ltd)
The company was established on the 12th of December 1978 – 79 by two friends John Hhaldane and Alexander ( sandy ) Waterston, who were former engineer’s but at this time were college lecturer’s. Their plans were severely hampered when someone set fire to the building, destroying part of the roof. So,on a wintry new years da

y in 1979 John and sandy set about repairing the damage so that work could start and Halston engineering begin life. At first the two director’s worked nights and week-end’s to get the company of the ground. After winning a contract with a car wash company, a relationship which lasted many years, and because of the amount of work coming in, they decided to employ someone that being Campbell Gillon. With more work coming in and winning yet another contract this time from alba tree’s ( making growing frames ) for holding the young sapling’s, in total over 18,000 where produced. More workers were employed and when Campbell moved on Jim bishop took over the role of foreman for a few years during this time in 1983 they started an apprentice, Gavin J Fowlds, who served his time to become a fully fledged mechanical engineer. Over the coming years employees had come and gone, and Gavin was taking a more active role in the everyday running of the business, so much so, that John and sandy offered him shares and directorship in the company. In 1994 Calvin f morrow joined the company as an apprentice and went on to become a mechanical engineer and like his cousin Gavin decided to take an interest in the day to day running of the company. Over the years work changed from machine work to more fabrication, welding and site work, as in ( water-board / kinpars / council / factory and building work) and of course private-work – gates – railings – fencing – prototype’s – jcb bucket work – metal forming – and various welding procedures. Twenty – one years on the building’s at Newtongrange were in need of repair, to make them wind and water proof so Halston decided to move to more modern and larger premises,
They found what they were looking for at unit 14 Mayfield ind est in the year 2000. By 2003 John and sandy had both retired as college lecturer’s and felt it was about time to handover the company. On the 5th of November 2003 Gavin and Calvin bought out the two original director’s. With a new younger approach Halston has been given a new lease of life, just four years on and changing everyday, more modern work a larger work–force three new van’s, new equipment in and out with the workshop and an ambition to succeed. On the 12th of December 2008 Halston engineering (ltd) will have been established for 30 years. Gavin and Calvin
Would like to thank John Haldane and Alexander ( sandy ) Waterston for all their hard work over the years and wish them all the best in their retirement. Hope this small history has been of interest to you.
