We're so lucky.

We get to meet some incredible people as part of our drone training. A few months ago, we welcomed four amazing cinematographers from Botswana. They came to Leaping Wing HQ in our beautiful village of Merthyr Mawr near Bridgend here in South Wales. They joined us for two days, to complete the A2 CofC qualification, but also for some enhanced flight training, to increase their already great filming skills and expand into aerial shooting.

They all worked on the wonderful BBC series Big Cats 24/7, and were funded on Project Songbird - the BBC Natural History Unit’s £1m investment over three years to nurture, diversify and attract new production talent in countries where the world-renowned unit frequently films. For the two days instead of capturing their usual leopards, lions and cheetahs, we introduced them to our swans, rabbits and squirrels as they were able to practice their filming along our beautiful Ogmore by sea coastline and unique giant sand dunes.

We recognise that qualifications are only half the story in growing your skills. So we offer bespoke industry training alongside the CAA qualifications you need.

Throughout the summer, the Leaping Wing team carries out thermographic inspections of solar PV installations, using thermal imaging to detect electrical faults and inefficiencies.

But sometimes it’s what we see on the visible camera which tells a story. We could see heavy dust accumulation that was severely affecting panel output, and physical impact damage to multiple panels - some of them have clearly been hit by something heavy! Neither of these issues had been previously reported by the site operator.

Our dual-sensor aerial surveys give asset owners a complete picture of their installation's condition, quickly and without operational disruption.

☀️ Sunday mornings don't get much better than this!

We were up bright and early to film Tesco's stunning new solar PV setup at their Pontarddulais store. Filming a 24-hour store always takes a bit of planning, but an early Sunday slot — combined with beautiful weather — made this one an absolute joy to capture.

It's always rewarding to help showcase the green investments businesses are making, and the aerial footage really does the installation justice. 🎥🚁

But sometimes even if you put pearls into the system you can inadvertently get swine out of the other end. Recently our QC processes showed up some serious issues with co-ordinate system transformations in the most commonly used LiDAR first-stage processing platform, DJI Terra.
