A grey start to the day… and we mean that in more ways than one.

Two D100 tanks heading out for paint this morning as another project reaches the next key stage in production.

There’s always something satisfying about seeing fabrication leave the workshop and move into finishing, a clear reflection of the planning, craftsmanship and teamwork that goes into every build.

Big credit to everyone involved in getting these units ready for the next phase.

We look forward to seeing them return in full colour.

Another great piece of work completed by the LFE team.

This fabricated support frame, produced by our own Paul Cannon, is one of two units being delivered to site. Once installed, the frames will be filled with over 130 tonnes of concrete, providing the mass and rigidity required to support a robotic arm system operating in a demanding environment.

Projects like this demonstrate the importance of accuracy, structural integrity, and fabrication expertise, particularly where equipment stability and long-term performance are critical.

Great work by Paul and the wider team involved in delivering this heavy-duty structure safely and efficiently.

A big thank you as well to Mad Trucker Joe for his support with the loading and delivery, ensuring the frame was transported safely and securely.

Celebrating Peter Kuchta’s Contribution to LFE Engineering

This month’s spotlight is a special one, as we recognise Peter Kuchta, Design Engineer, who is retiring after 14 years with LFE Engineering.

Peter joined LFE in April 2012 as a Fabricator Welder, bringing strong practical knowledge of fabrication and welding processes. Over time, he progressed into the role of Design Engineer, where his hands-on experience proved invaluable when developing practical, efficient, and buildable solutions for the shopfloor.

Throughout his time at LFE, Peter has worked across a wide variety of projects, from fabricating tanks and structural frameworks to designing paint frames, welding fixtures, and bespoke production equipment. His ability to understand both fabrication requirements and design intent helped ensure projects could move smoothly from concept through to manufacture.

One project Peter particularly enjoyed involved developing a conveyor system for George Koch, where he designed and built a welding robot to support the fabrication process. Demonstrating both creativity and engineering mindset, the robot itself was produced using a repurposed Mag drill, highlighting Peter’s practical approach to problem solving and innovation.

Peter takes pride in being able to develop ideas into working solutions and seeing those solutions used in real production environments. His background in fabrication has allowed him to design with a clear understanding of what works in practice, helping improve efficiency and usability on the shopfloor.

Moving from fabrication into design is a path that reflects both technical capability and a willingness to continuously develop new skills. Peter’s contribution over the last 14 years has supported a wide range of projects across the business and helped strengthen the link between design and manufacture.

As Peter begins his retirement, we would like to thank him for his contribution, professionalism, and practical approach to engineering challenges.

We wish Peter all the very best for the future and hope retirement brings plenty of time to enjoy new projects, without the deadlines.

LFE Team Spotlight – March

Recognising 10 Years with LFE Engineering

This month we’re recognising Paul Cannon, Fabricator Welder & Responsible Welding Co-ordinator (RWC), who is celebrating 10 years with LFE Engineering since rejoining the business in March 2016.

Paul originally worked with LFE in 1999, designing and fabricating prototype pallets early in his career. After gaining further experience elsewhere, he ultimately found his way back home to LFE, proof that some places are hard to stay away from.

Over the past decade, Paul has become a key member of the shopfloor team, contributing to a wide range of projects across multiple sectors including:
Gas and Oil industry work
Automotive jigs and fixtures
Lifting equipment and bespoke fabrications

Alongside his fabrication responsibilities, Paul performs the role of Responsible Welding Co-ordinator (RWC), a key technical position supporting LFE’s welding compliance and quality standards. This role requires both technical knowledge and practical experience, ensuring welding activities consistently meet the standards expected by both LFE and our clients.

Paul is often involved at the early stages of bespoke projects, where his experience helps ensure designs are practical to manufacture while maintaining quality and compliance requirements. His ability to anticipate potential challenges during both the design and fabrication stages helps reduce rework and supports efficient project delivery.

What Paul enjoys most about his role is the variety of work and the opportunity to turn his hand to anything, particularly when a new challenge presents itself. He is often one of the first people involved when bespoke projects begin, applying his experience and attention to detail to help achieve the best possible outcome.

Paul is proud to have been part of LFE for 10 years, contributing to a wide range of technically varied projects while building strong working relationships across the business. His ability to identify potential issues early and maintain a high standard of workmanship plays an important role in maintaining the quality expected across our fabrication activities.

Robert Scott, Director, commented:

“Paul’s experience, technical knowledge and attention to detail make a real difference when projects move from concept into manufacture. Having someone who understands both the design intent and the practical realities of fabrication helps ensure work is delivered efficiently and to the right standard.

His role as Responsible Welding Co-ordinator is particularly important in maintaining consistency and quality across our welding activities, and his willingness to support colleagues and share knowledge reflects the collaborative culture we value at LFE.”

Thank you, Paul, for your continued commitment and contribution to LFE.
