This month we're shining the spotlight on Erik Szasz, Design & Project Engineer, who is approaching 10 years (on 3rd July) with LFE Engineering after joining us in July 2016.
Erik's journey is a fantastic example of how embracing opportunities and continually developing new skills can shape a rewarding engineering career.
Starting as a Fitter, working alongside his father, Erik was offered the opportunity to complete a Level 2 Welding Apprenticeship, achieving a Distinction before progressing to Level 3, where he once again graduated with a Distinction.
During his apprenticeships, Erik gained experience across the business, including Press Brake, CNC Laser, shopfloor equipment and site work. Around two and a half years ago, he took on a new challenge, joining our design team as a Junior Design Engineer. Today, he works as a Design & Project Engineer, combining hands-on manufacturing experience with engineering design to deliver projects from concept through to completion.
Some of Erik's highlights include:
• Automotive engineering projects for a range of clients
• Specialist training in France on our wire bending machine
• Installation work at Cummins and JLR
• Supporting the manufacture of numerous water treatment tanks and bespoke fabrications
Outside of customer work, Erik enjoys applying his creativity to personal projects, from designing prehistoric animal sculptures during his apprenticeship to transforming laser offcuts into a bespoke gate for his home.
When asked what he enjoys most about his role, Erik said it's the variety of work, the opportunity to tackle new challenges and the chance to keep learning. Looking back, he's most proud of his career progression from fitter, to apprentice welder, to Design & Project Engineer and of the many skills he's developed along the way, which he now enjoys sharing with colleagues.
Martin Carolan commented:
"Erik's journey is one we're incredibly proud of. Achieving Distinctions in both his Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships before progressing into our Design & Project team is a fantastic achievement.
His willingness to learn, embrace new challenges and continually develop has been outstanding. Erik is a great example of what can be achieved through hard work, commitment and making the most of every opportunity. We're excited to see where the next stage of his career takes him."
Erik's story reflects LFE's commitment to investing in people, developing talent from within and creating opportunities for individuals to build long-term careers in engineering.
Thank you, Erik, for your dedication and contribution, we're looking forward to seeing what the future holds for you.
