Last night, we had the pleasure of attending the Irish News Business Excellence Awards at the iconic Titanic Belfast.

It was an incredible evening celebrating the innovation, resilience and success of businesses from across Northern Ireland. The calibre of talent and entrepreneurship on display was truly inspiring and a testament to the strength of our local business community.

We were especially honoured to be shortlisted for Small Business of the Year. To be recognised alongside so many outstanding businesses is something we are incredibly proud of and a reflection of the hard work of our team and the continued support of our clients.

Inspiring the next generation is something we are passionate about at Hutchinson. Over the past few months, we have had the pleasure of welcoming P7 students from Holy Family Primary School to our site, where they learned more about our industry and took part in a fun colouring competition.

Today, we were delighted to visit the school to reconnect with the pupils and present prizes to the competition winners. It was fantastic to see their creativity and enthusiasm on display.

Engaging with local schools and promoting opportunities is an important part of what we do. We hope the students enjoyed their time with us and gained an insight into the exciting career paths and opportunities available within our industry.

Supporting customers at the highest level has always been our top priority.

That’s exactly what the launch of the Hutchinson Coating Centre will help us do.

For a number of years, one challenge kept standing out:

Finishing.

As our business grew and customer expectations around speed, quality, and flexibility continued to rise, relying on external suppliers for powder coating and finishing services created pressure points we couldn’t fully control.

So we made a decision.

To bring coating in-house.

While this is a major investment in capability, it’s about much more than coating alone.

It’s a statement about the direction Hutchinson is moving in.

- More integrated
- More responsive
- More aligned with what modern manufacturing customers actually need

Under one roof, we can now offer a joined-up process, which will help customers reduce delays, improve communication, and move projects forward with greater confidence.

As our CEO, Mark Hutchinson puts it:

“We’re moving towards being a more integrated, more capable manufacturing partner, not just a fabrication supplier.”

We’ll continue to invest in technology, infrastructure, and long-term partnerships that will serve our customers best.

For us, that’s been one of the most rewarding parts of the experience.

It’s about mindset.

This week we were delighted to welcome another P7 class from Holy Family Primary School, Magherafelt, to Hutchinson for an exciting and interactive visit. 👏

One of the highlights of the visit was getting hands-on experience with our weld simulator, where the pupils were able to test their skills and experience a realistic introduction to welding technology in a safe and engaging way. 🔧✨

We hope the visit helped inspire the next generation of engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers!

A big thank you to the staff and pupils from Holy Family Primary School for visiting us — we loved having you here and hope you all enjoyed the experience as much as we did. 😊

A few years ago, we invested in a robotic welding system.

At the time, we believed the robot would do 100% of the work.

But by working closely with a trusted partner, we realised we were looking at the problem the wrong way.

The best results came from combining automation with our team’s skills.

- Letting robotics handle repetitive welding work
- Allowing skilled fabricators to focus on the finishing details
- Creating a smarter balance between technology and craftsmanship

The impact was immediate.

Better efficiency, better quality, and a better use of our team’s expertise.

It was a valuable reminder for us.

To mark Mental Health Awareness Week, the team at Hutchinson wanted to take a moment away from the day-to-day and come together over a cuppa and cake. ☕🍰

It was a chance to slow down, check in with one another, and create space for open conversations around mental health and wellbeing. Sometimes the simplest moments - sharing a brew, having a chat, and listening to each other - can make the biggest difference.

At Hutchinson, we know how important it is to support not only physical safety in the workplace, but mental wellbeing too. Taking time to connect, talk and support one another helps build a stronger, healthier team.
