When men were made of steel and boats were made of wood. It was a pleasure to service and repair this Hayter Hayterette today. A very popular machine back in the day and still highly regarded by many. Potentially a lawnmower for life. We have done many upgrades of the old engine to a later model Briggs and Stratton like this one and also fitted the ever dependable Honda GCV engine to some.

We resharpen and balance lawnmower cutting blades most day’s but sometimes you really do need a bright and shiny new replacement. We respect all budgets and a pattern part blade for this Hayter pro 56 will be a definite upgrade. You will see a picture here of the exhaust and inlet valve which are found on all 4 stroke engines and can fall under the category of out of sight and out of mind. It is very important that they are maintained with a precise fine clearance to manufactures specifications or poor running, poor starting and major damage can be experienced. Out of sight and out of mind. Have you ever wondered how the drive chain on your roller mower is getting on? A poorly maintained drive chain will cause extra wear on the sprocket’s and bearings and is often the cause of what can be a financially unviable repair for your machine. It could be argued that maintenance of the roller drive chain is more important than changing the engine oil annually due to its proximity of being exposed to dirt and wet grass.

A lawnmower in for repair this week. The grass must have started growing again. Not the case with this machine, the problem was that it had been used to collect leafs and acorns and twigs and it had derailed the self propelled drive belt which had then wound its self in between the pulley and engine, we recommend using a rake for the given task. Little and large blowers and chain saws with a splattering of strimmers thrown in have mainly kept us busy this week. Out of sight and out of mind. Hedge trimmer gear box problems, they mostly fail due to lack of good lubrication and can be a very expensive error to make. Hayter scarifier in the workshop for service and repair this week. Scarifing is generally a spring or annual or even less frequent task and consequently if using pump fuel that is left in the machine for long periods festering away and damaging all the components of the fuel system the machine will be rendered useless and sometimes beyond economical repair.
