Behind every successful contract lift is detailed planning long before the crane arrives on site.

Every contract lift begins with a detailed lift plan. Every aspect is considered in advance, including crane positioning, load radius, site restrictions, access routes and sequencing. That planning is what allows lifts to be delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements.

For clients, appointing an experienced contract lift provider reduces risk, improves coordination and provides clear accountability throughout the operation. It also ensures lifts are planned and managed in accordance with current regulations and industry standards.

Our lift management approach combines experienced personnel, engineered planning and modern equipment to support projects across construction, infrastructure, utilities and renewable energy.

Our industry talks a lot about safety. But how often do we talk about mental health?

In crane operations and construction, people face real pressures every day from long hours, isolation, demanding decisions and time away from family. And for too long, the culture has been to simply "get on with it." But fatigue, stress and poor mental health directly affect concentration and decision-making. In lifting operations, that matters enormously.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we've shared our thoughts on what a safer, more open industry looks like and what we're doing at Cadman Cranes to help build it.

From our in-house Mental Health First Aider and Mental Health Advocates, to confidential support services, flexible working and financial wellbeing initiatives, we're committed to creating a culture where people can speak up early, without fear of judgement.

Seeking support when you need it is part of working safely.

Another successful modular installation completed alongside the team at MY-Fab.

This residential development in the centre of Aylesbury will deliver 15 new apartments using modular units manufactured off-site at MY-Fab’s facility and delivered directly to site, demonstrating the efficiency of modular construction when combined with detailed lift planning and precise on-site installation.

Cadman Cranes carried out the Contract Lift using our 110t Liebherr crane, with Matt Dodd supervising operations and Mike Reeves operating the crane throughout the project.

Access on site was extremely restricted. Multiple crane positions had to be explored during planning to achieve the required lifting radius and maintain safe installation sequencing across the build.

Each modular unit weighed approximately 14 tonnes, with 9 modules installed per level to create the 5-storey structure.

Projects like this rely on coordination between manufacturing, logistics and lift management teams to maintain programme certainty and installation accuracy.

Always great to receive feedback like this following a recent NorDan window installation:

“After all the confusion about the viability of craning the NorDan windows, your crew did an amazing job. They were pleasant, communicative, confident, reassuring and simply very capable. It was like the proverbial walk in the park for them and I felt that the project was in good hands from start to finish.”

A great example of how the right team can turn a potentially complex lift into a smooth, straightforward job.

If you’ve got a challenging lift coming up, we’re here to help.

Not your average weekend on site.

Cadman Cranes recently supported Village Underground in Shoreditch, London, with a complex contract lift, removing two decommissioned Jubilee Line carriages from the roof of the iconic venue.

Village Underground has had four retired London Underground carriages sitting on its roof since 2006, when they were acquired from Transport for London for just £100 and converted into creative studio spaces. They've been a beloved feature of the Shoreditch skyline ever since. Two of the carriages remain in place, but as part of renovation works to create a new outdoor social area at the now-renowned nightclub and music venue, two were brought down. The trains will be transported to Norwich to be repurposed and rehomed.

At 21.5 tonnes combined, this was no small undertaking. Four months of planning went into the operation, including securing two road closures across two separate local councils, all timed to land on one of London's busiest weekends of the year with the Marathon in full swing across the city.

For the lift itself, we utilised a Liebherr LTM1400-6.1 crane with an 80t counterweight, rigged on 4m x 2.2m power pads and the project was completed safely and to schedule. Big thanks to Emerson Crane Hire Ltd for the hire, and to the whole team on site for a job well done.

Happy Earth Day from Cadman Cranes. 🌍

Decarbonising heavy lifting is a genuine challenge. But over the past few years, we've shown that with the right commitment, real progress is possible.

In 2025, we achieved carbon neutrality for our operational emissions through initiatives like switching our entire crane fleet to HVO biofuel and investing in solar generation at our HQ.

2026 is about going further.
We're exploring electric crane technology as part of our evolving fleet strategy, formalising our carbon accounting so every tonne is tracked and offset with integrity, and turning our attention to our satellite depots and the wider supply chain.

And beyond our own operations, we're committed to supporting the broader sustainability ambitions of our group and the communities we work in.

We're proud of how far we've come, and we look forward to continuing to push our industry forward.

Back on site at Copwood VFB Energy Hub in East Sussex.

Last month, Cadman Cranes returned in full strength to support Aniron Renewables and Invinity Energy Systems with phase 2 of the installation programme, deploying our 230t Liebherr mobile and crawler cranes to continue the build-out of this major energy storage scheme.

Once complete, Copwood will be the largest vanadium flow battery installation in Europe. A project of this scale demands more than lifting capacity alone. It requires coordinated lift planning, experienced teams and controlled ex*****on within a live energy environment.

There is now one phase remaining before completion, marking a significant milestone for both the project and the wider rollout of long-duration energy storage in the UK.

If you're involved in BESS or wider energy infrastructure projects, this is exactly where early lift planning and experienced delivery make the difference.

We recently supported Construction Crew on a specialist contract lift at an agricultural plant in Stafford, clearing digestate from an anaerobic digestion tank ready for use as fertiliser.

Using our largest 4m³ hydraulic grab, we were able to remove around 5 tonnes with every lift. Over the course of the week, approximately 500 tonnes of material was cleared from the tank.

This type of work sits outside what most people associate with crane operations, but it highlights the value of the right equipment, planning and experienced lift team when working in more complex or non-standard environments.

If your project involves something that doesn’t fit the usual brief, it’s worth a conversation.

We were delighted to be invited to spend time with the next generation of the industry at West Suffolk College’s Built Environment Campus this month.

Working with T-Level, Bricklaying and Multi Trade students, our Managing Director, Matt Waddingham, delivered an introduction to cranes and lifting, followed by a live demonstration using our Liebherr LTM1050-3.1 and a full lift team.

Matt wanted to give students a clear view of what lifting looks like in practice and where it fits within the wider construction process. Too often, it’s treated as an afterthought when in reality it underpins how projects are delivered safely and efficiently.

The session finished with students getting up close to the crane, asking questions and seeing the detail behind a controlled lift.

As Matt put it:
“I am no tutor and the people who do this every day deserve a medal. But it was a real privilege to spend time with the students at West Suffolk College. Lifting is often overlooked, but it is a critical part of the construction ecosystem. With the level of investment coming into this region, these students will be the ones delivering it. It was great to give them some insight into what we do.”

Thanks to the team at West Suffolk College for the opportunity to get involved.
