Putting an M24 thread into 15mm Stainless Steel, not necessarily the kindest way to use a 3/4" Jacobs chuck, but its the only way I have to hold a tap of that size, I'm also a believe that "the tool that does the job is the right tool to do the job"

Its the end of the football season but things have to carry on behind the scenes in preparationfor the next season. Time to take the mower away for its yearly bubble bath, service and this time a few unforseen repairs

Another before and after restoration and another Coalbrookdale garden Seat. These were made in Coalbrookdale Shropshire and have always been and still are still extremely sought after for their extremely intricate designs and very much worth restoring and even though this particular example is a bit of a sad case it was still very much worth restoring. After having all the years worth of paint blasted off we were able to date the bench from the makers marks at March 1866, but sadly after 160 years there were no fewer than 24 cracks and breaks in the back casting alone. Normally I would relish the challenge at repairing this, but because the cracks had gone so far into the casting and in so many different places, experience has taught me to leave this well alone, any significant heat put into the casting will just cause expansion and further cracks and ultimately break the casting into several pieces, which would be a disaster, so two mechanical repairs were made just to tie it all together. Once all the repairs were completed it was repainted and new oak slats fitted and returned to an extremely pleased customer

The first arch of the year completed and ready for the nearby Wisteria to start climbing over it. Although this is a conventional arch its story is less so. This was a Christmas present to a friend of ours and part of it was that she made it herself, from scratch. So with my workshop and equipment at her disposal and of course with some careful guidance and tuition, she was able to have a little taster of sawing, drilling and rolling mild steel. Once all the component parts were all fabricated and laid out, she then got to view the job from a welders perspective from behind a welding screen. After a little more instruction she welded it together. Not only does she have the arch she wanted, she also has the satisfaction of say to everyone that sees it "I made that" which makes it just that little bit more special

Having replaced several digger/loader bucket blades in my time, I assumed this one was going to be pretty straight forward, WRONG! After spending all its life scrapping out a cattle yard and splashing around in all sorts of organic material, it has consequently rotted to a point that no matter how much I cleaned it up, I could not achieve a tidy weld, in the end I had to go old school and break out the weld anything in any condition stick welder and finish off with that, got there in the end

First job of the new year completed today. This aluminium tool box from the side of a Volvo truck had extensive corrosion from years of water, dirt and salt from the road. A piece of aluminium tread plate bent and welded into place, not the easiest of welds due to athe contamination but the box is now ready for another few hundred thousand miles

As we welcome 2026 we can look back on 2025 and say to ourselves " we made it". As with alot of small businesses 2025 hasn't been the greatest due to circumstances beyond our control, but as Armour Engineering moves into its 40th year of trading, its no stranger to having to weather the tough times, we take that into 2026 and take on the new year head on. Thank you to all of our friends and customers for your support during 2025 and hope to see you all again in 2026 and a Happy New Year to you all
