A former industrial site in Essex has been transformed into a purpose-built lorry park for heavy goods vehicles and open storage yard.

Delivered by SRC Build as Principal Contractor, the project brought together multiple divisions across SRC Group, including Engineering, Contracting, Transport and Readymix.

A strong example of our joined-up approach, delivering practical, robust infrastructure from design through to construction.

More capacity. Stronger coverage. Built for demand.

Our new ready mixed concrete plant at Cavenham is now fully operational.

With a high output 3.3m³ mixer, the plant is built for volume - giving us the capacity to supply larger pours and support growing demand across Suffolk.

This latest investment strengthens our existing ready mixed concrete network and gives customers even greater access to reliable supply across the region.

What a moment for SRC Group.

On Wednesday 13th May we attended the 2026 Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management - and came away as winner of the Circular Economy Success category!

Our circular economy model is built into the way we work - recovering construction and demolition waste, processing it through our own facilities and creating materials that can be reused across the construction industry. To have that recognised nationally is an incredibly proud moment for the whole team.

A huge thank you to everyone across SRC Group who plays a part in making this possible, and to our customers and suppliers who continue to support us.

We’re taking a closer look at the sites across the SRC Group network, starting with one of our longest-standing operational sites - Crown Quarry in Colchester.

Nick Brown, Commercial Manager at SRC Group, gives a short overview of the site, what we can offer from Crown and what day-to-day operations look like behind the scenes.

A few useful insights, a look at Crown in action and Nick being Nick.

A recent project delivered by SRC Build at Addenbrooke’s Ambulance Station.

Acting as Principal Contractor, the team carried out licensed asbestos removal and a full refurbishment of the building, including key safety upgrades, internal improvements and a durable resin finish to the external ambulance parking areas.

One of the key challenges was keeping the station fully operational throughout. With staff temporarily relocated on site, works were carefully phased to ensure ambulance services could continue without disruption. The result is a safer, more modern environment for the teams based there, improving both the building’s functionality and overall appearance.

A considered approach like this is essential when working in live environments where there’s no room for disruption.

One of our new Volvo L150K loading shovels on its way to one of our sites in Suffolk, ready to load aggregates out to every construction project in the county.

As our presence in the region continues to grow, we’re supporting projects with muckaway, recycled aggregates, ready-mixed concrete and ECO-BLOC.

That’s Suffolk covered.

Yesterday we welcomed Joshua Holmes-Bright from BBC Essex to Highwood Quarry, following a recent post from our Head of Production, John Hilton, raising concerns about children trespassing on site.

What started as a message to the local community quickly gathered attention and we’re really pleased to see this being talked about more widely.

Josh joined John on site for a live interview on BBC Essex yesterday morning, speaking directly from Highwood Quarry about the risks and why quarries should never be treated as places to explore or play. After the interview John took Josh around the site to show first hand what an active quarry really looks like, highlighting the very real dangers and why it’s so important to stay out.

From the outside, quarries can look open and harmless. In reality, they are working industrial environments. Deep, cold water. Unstable ground. Heavy machinery. Sheer drops. It only takes a moment for something to go wrong. Children are naturally curious and we understand that. That’s why these conversations matter.

If more people are aware of the risks it helps prevent situations before they happen. It’s not about scaring people, it’s about making sure everyone understands that these sites are not safe to enter.

A big thank you to BBC Essex for helping us raise awareness on something that really matters. If this message reaches even one family and helps keep someone safe, it’s worth it.
