Awaab’s Law was introduced following the tragic death of Awaab Ishak, a two-year-old boy who died in 2020 due to prolonged exposure to mould in his home.
The purpose of this law is to ensure landlords act quickly when serious issues are reported and to improve the safety of housing conditions.
Under the new legal timeframes:
- Emergency hazards must be made safe within 24 hours
- Damp and mould issues must be investigated within 10 working days
- A solution must be in place within a further 5 working days
If a property is deemed unsafe and poses a health risk, landlords are required to provide alternative accommodation.
✅ That’s where proactive solutions matter
