The Company was founded in 1938 (originally named Hawthorn Garage) and was also a successful plumbing and heating business. It was established as Overbrook Garage in 1959 by Mr O.H.Griffiths and in the early 1960’s went over solely to the repair of cars and vehicle breakdown, and later was one of the first companies to be involved in vehicle recovery. The business is now operated by Mr T Griffiths
and his family. In 1997 the Company acquired Hawkwell Garage in Cinderford, allowing it to operate the recovery business from a dedicated yard which gave secure vehicle storage and excellent workshops for the maintenance of a comprehensive fleet of own vehicles. The company has built up a successful business by ensuring that staff are fully trained in all aspects of their work. They receive additional training as new working practices or technological developments dictate. Being a family business in a rural area personal contact with the customers has always been very important. The recovery side of the business gained its ISO9002 in 1997 for recovery and in 1998 for the workshop. In August 2002 we were one of the first organisations to attain PAS43 in the UK. The workshops and MOT testing stations have:
the latest computerised engine diagnostic equipment with digital oscilloscope and code reader
four wheel diagnostic computerised equipment
automatic tyre changer and computerised wheel balancing equipment
diesel smoke meter and five gas emission equipment
air conditioning servicing equipment
RAC computer based technical capabilities (Autologic)
We offer dedicated customer waiting areas with hot and cold vending machines, providing complimentary refreshments. It's our aim to bring a welcoming atmosphere for all our customers. Overbrook has a very good team of roadside mechanics, recovery drivers, workshop mechanics, forecourt and office staff all of whom are involved in ensuring and maintaining customer satisfaction. In December 1997 substantial additional premises where purchased to cope with the increasing demand. Initially for recovery operations and maintenance of the company vehicles, subsequently it was expanded to include testing bays for all current vehicles. It is also approved by the VI as a designated testing station for HGV & PSV type vehicles. This Testing Station is unique in the West of England and there are only a handful in the whole of the UK in private ownership. At Hawkwell we operate a fully computerised HGV brake tester with axle weighing features. A third depot was opened in Gloucester in early 1999 to assist servicing of our various Gloucester contracts and has proven a success and allows our technicians to do repairs and fuel drains in our fully equipped workshops. This Company is primarily involved in:
the roadside repair and recovery of motor vehicles
the repair and service of motor vehicles
the supply of petrol & diesel fuels from a busy forecourt together with two MOT stations.
