🚨 Visiting Class 08 08573 Running Day 🚨

We are delighted to announce for those who missed our fantastic Twin Peaks Gala, that we have another opportunity to travel behind our visiting Class 08 08573, courtesy of RMS Locotec.

The Class 08 will be running on Saturday 9th May to our standard diesel timetable with standard fares in operation.

We hope to see you there, for another chance to travel behind the recently returned to service Class 08 Shunter.

🚨Twin Peaks Diesel Gala - Friday 10th & Saturday 11th April🚨

We are delighted to announce the first visiting locomotive starring in Twin Peaks Diesel Gala at Peak Rail.

Class 08 08573 joins the lineup for the event, which promises to be a great event, including an intensive timetable, with passenger and freight workings, driver for a fiver and an on train bar.

Recently returned to service by RMS Locotec in Chesterfield after a prolonged period under repair, 08573 is coming to Peak Rail for shakedown and testing before going out on hire.

The working timetable & connecting bus service timetable will be available soon, once final locomotives are confirmed.

08822 – Mainline Return & Hire Movement

08822, owned by our sister company Eastern Rail Services, went on hire today, transferring from Gemini Rail Services at Wolverton to Bletchley Carriage Sidings, hauling 37501.

The movement follows completion of a major examination to return the locomotive to compliant mainline operating condition within a tight timeframe. The short programme of works was delivered on time to meet the customer’s requirements and deadline. Key systems were inspected, tested and signed off, including traction and braking equipment, alongside verification of safety systems such as TPWS and GSM-R.

Following final operational checks and assurance processes, the locomotive was released to traffic under its own power for transfer to its hire location.

Credit to the engineering and operations teams whose coordinated effort delivered this return-to-service milestone safely and efficiently. I would also extend this thanks to the drivers at Gemini for their support and for accommodating our team throughout the process.

Late night servicing at Ketton Cement Works 🌙🚂

Spent the small hours looking after 08809 and 08622, keeping these trusty Class 08s ready for another shift on the cement traffic. There’s something about working under the yard lights with the hum of compressors and the smell of warm oil that never gets old.

Both locos behaving well — fuel, checks, inspections done and dusted. Even after decades of work, these shunters still prove why the British Rail design was built to last.

Not many people see this side of the railway — when the plant’s quieter, the air’s colder, and it’s just you and the machines keeping things moving behind the scenes.
