In June 2019 Chiltern District Council invited Town and Parish
Council applications for local community project grant funding. For a project to receive grant funding, it had to meet certain
criteria. Our Parish Council applied to fund a project that would
benefit the whole village. The current Ashley Green Village Playground was built in 2004
by Alby Russell It is now unsafe and in need of signifi
cant
investment. When the storeroom was added to the rear of the
Memorial Hall in 2013, external double doors were incorporated. The vision was to one day provide an external terrace, linking the
Memorial Hall to the playground and The Glebe. Our Parish Council submitted a robust and detailed application
for a new Outdoor Wellbeing Facility that would benefit the
entire Ashley Green community. In October 2019 they were
informed, to their delight, that they had received £32,000 as a
contribution to the facility This was the highest award to any
applicant in the process. In August 2020 a group of villagers formed a committee to
drive the project forward. They agreed that Ashley Green
would not only benefit from an outdoor wellbeing facility with
gym equipment, but also a new playground and coffee shop. The coffee shop will focus on offering high quality coffee and
snacks from a kiosk outlet. The terrace and Memorial Hall will
then be able to offer a much improved space to host small
events, classes and parties. We are all tremendously excited about this opportunity to
reinvigorate our village centre. By providing a community hub
that will offer benefits to all ages, we hope to create a natural
meeting place for villagers. Our vision is for this to be a space
where villagers of all ages congregate for coffee and snacks,
bring children to a state of the art safe playground and
partake in exercise. The Parish Council has now submitted a planning application
They hope to expedite the programme to build the playground,
terrace and coffee shop over the coming months, with a target
opening of 1st June 2021. To achieve this ambitious target, we need to raise funds
additional to the grant and generous donations that have
already been received. Further information on this can be
found in the fund raising section of this newsletter. All villagers
also have the opportunity to partake in an exciting community
challenge to help raise the required funds.
