Advantages of using Chemical Anchor Capsules:

* They offer an easy fixing for many types of application. Use one capsule per hole, with no need for mixing, no waste and no mess.

They work on the basic principle of having a base resin and a hardener, or catalyst that mix (hence the term, “chemical anchor”). This happens when the all-thread studding/ bar/ rod is twisted into the pre-drilled hole. The capsule breaks and the aggregate and hardener mix to create a substance harder that the material you are fixing to. You can see the hardener inside the capsule; you must return any capsules that do not flow. It means that the hardener and resin has already mixed.

Bolt vs Set

A Hex Bolt is the term used for a partially threaded fastener, with a hexagon head; designed to be used with a nut and washer. A Hex Set (Screw Bolt) is the same, except it is fully threaded.

These bolts have threads as long as their diameters x 2.5 as a rule of thumb (please ask for exact measurement if it's crucial). As the bolt length gets longer the plain shank gets longer and the threaded part stays the same.

What is a projecting bolt and where are they most commonly applied?

Projecting Bolt, Masonry Shield Anchor is a heavy duty, builder’s masonry, expansion anchor, for fixing heavy materials and fixtures. They are most commonly used on walls as the pertruding stad helps to hang items in situ.

It can be used in concrete, brick/ block and non-porous stone.

It comprises of a 3 part shield, threaded bar (high tensile - grade 8.8), nut and washer. It is an expansion anchor that pushes outwards at 3 points as the nut is tightened.

Application

* Projecting bolts are used when material/ fixtures need to be held in place during installation.
* The projecting threaded bar is used as a locator.
* Care must be taken not to damage the thread during installation.
* Shield anchors have an added advantage of being able to function with holes that vary in size/ quality.

Installation

Drill the correct sized hole, clear/ clean the hole (brush and air pump), place the anchor in the hole, set the fixture/ material in place, fix by tightening the nut.
