From Ancient Inspiration to Modern Innovation: Celebrating World Engineering Day 🌍🔧
At Spirax Sarco, we recognise the ingenuity of engineers in the past and present.

In our reception in one of our UK Cheltenham offices, you’ll find a model of Hero’s first steam engine—a concept over 2,000 years old that provided an initial blueprint for the steam systems we optimise today.

This model was a project we displayed in 2019, and it serves as a reminder of how engineering curiosity drives progress.

While Hero’s aeolipile was never used for industrial applications, it laid the foundations for the steam power that shaped the modern world.

Today, we continue to push boundaries—helping industries worldwide improve efficiency, and reduce energy consumption with steam system expertise and innovations.

How did Winston Churchill know of Spirax Sarco?
In 1938, Spirax Sarco (or Spirax Manufacturing as it was then known), received its largest-ever order from the British Admiralty.

During the second world war in 1939, Winston Churchill recognised the contributions of companies like ours, stating, “The work you and we are doing today is of prime national importance.”

🌍 At Spirax Sarco, our commitment to education continues with new, inspiring projects funded through the Spirax Group’s Education Fund in 2024.

🎓 Spirax Sarco France: We’re supporting 10 children with Down Syndrome by funding £8,465 for specialised classroom equipment, ensuring these students receive the tailored support they need for intellectual and social development.

💼 Spirax Sarco Canada: With £14,610 awarded to PALS Autism School, we’re supporting Intensive Behaviour Intervention for 23 students, empowering their academic and personal growth while engaging with the local community.

📚 Spirax Sarco Mexico: With £18,014 in funding, we’re educating young people aged 15-18 on sustainability and biodiversity. This initiative will enhance STEM skills, promote inclusivity, and empower the community through scientific research.

These projects underscore our commitment to supporting education, sustainability, and inclusivity across diverse communities.
