On an acoustic panel, one rough slot does not sit on its own. The same feature appears across the complete surface and may need to align with the next panel.

Don’t inspect the first panel and assume the run will stay the same. Place the first and last panels together. Compare the same slots or perforations on each. Check the edges for signs of cutter wear and confirm that the pattern continues correctly across adjoining sheets.

Record the tool and its cutting time before the next batch. That gives the team a clear reference for changing the cutter before the finish drops below the approved standard.

The tool and cutting strategy still need to suit the panel surface and finish required. Comparing the first and last panels shows whether that choice held across the run.

One approved panel proves the setup can start correctly. The last panel shows whether it stayed there.

Do you need a second router, or a stronger replacement?
Both can increase capacity. They do not solve the same problem.

A second router makes sense when the current machine is already productive and there is enough suitable work to keep another one running.

An upgrade makes more sense when capacity is being lost to manual tool changes, limited material capability, inconsistent performance, or jobs the current machine cannot take on properly.

Before committing to another machine, separate productive cutting time from time lost around the process. Then look at the work being delayed, declined or subcontracted because of the limits of the current setup.

That tells you whether the business needs another version of the capacity it already has, or a stronger production platform.

SINTREX expanded PET sheet entered the UK sign and display market this year. It can be printed, cut, milled, folded, bent and thermoformed, giving signmakers and display producers another option for indoor and outdoor work.

SINTREX is described as easy to process. The point is not that this particular material should be difficult. It is one example of a much wider change.

More sheet materials are reaching the market. Different cores, surface finishes and recycled content give businesses more ways to answer a customer's brief, but they also make current cutting knowledge more important.

Supplier information tells you what a material can do. A controlled cutting test confirms the tooling and settings your own job requires before a new sheet goes into production.

If you run a Tekcel router and are unclear about how to approach a new material, send us a sample. Our team can test it and advise you on the tooling and cutting approach.

The proposed new sign standard starts where installation ends.
Can you identify the approved artwork revision, materials, fixing positions and later alterations? Could you reproduce the correct panel or letter without measuring the entire sign again?

If published, BS 559-2 could change how sign fabricators plan for a sign's working life.

The cutter you use most is the one you miss fastest when there is no fresh replacement on your shelf. Remember to keep a spare ready for the ones production relies on most. Then, when a tool is damaged or the finish begins to drop, it can be replaced without changing the job plan or trying to push a worn cutter through one more sheet.

Go Direct From Router to Paint Shop
Andy at We are Reeds is doing just that. By using our specialist acrylic tooling, he’s producing 20mm clear cast and 30mm opal acrylic letters that go straight from the router to the paint shop.

These tools are mirror-polished on the inside. This internal finish, combined with superior geometry, ensures every cut is as smooth as it is precise.

⚙️Better, Faster Swarf Clearance: The polished flutes eject waste effortlessly, preventing melting and re-cutting.
⚙️ No Secondary Processes: Forget flame polishing or hand-buffing. You get a strong, crisp edge straight off the machine.
⚙️ Massive Time Savings: Spend your time winning new jobs, not sanding old ones.

That’s the power of our high-performance tooling: cleaner cuts, faster cycles, and a perfect finish.
