IPC Moulding was delighted to have attended the NI Chamber Momentum Conference today – Northern Ireland's economic conference, bringing together leaders, policymakers and industry experts to shape the future of our region's economy.
This year's theme, Thinking Globally, couldn't feel more relevant for a business like ours. The sessions on international trade, public sector transformation and innovation gave us plenty to think about.
Highlights included insights from Peter Foster, World Trade Editor at the Financial Times, Dr Caoimhe Archibald MLA, Economy Minister, Sebastian Burnside, Chief Economist at NatWest Group, and Nigel Walsh of Ulster Bank. It was a genuinely strong line-up with real substance behind it.
A recurring theme throughout the day was the relationship between a strong economy and public investment. The simple truth that strong businesses and economic growth generate the tax revenue that funds public services. But that only works if the public sector is fit for purpose, and there was honest discussion about the transformation needed, from wastewater and planning reform to infrastructure delays and the bureaucratic bottlenecks that are holding Northern Ireland back.
The panel on public sector transformation was a particular standout, drawing on insights from other regions and nations. The message was clear: the issues aren't unique to us, but the delay points, particularly around infrastructure, are known, and that means they're solvable.
What's needed is the right leadership and culture, clarity on outcomes, genuine cross-sector collaboration, and critically, multi-year funding commitments that give transformation programmes the time and stability to deliver.
At IPC Mouldings, we're always looking outward; new ideas and new opportunities. Events like Momentum remind us why that matters, and why businesses like ours have a stake in getting Northern Ireland's economic foundations right.
