New Opportunity for Apprentice Matthew ⚙️

A big congratulations to apprentice Matthew Grieve (pictured left with Quality Manager Jamie Bethwaite), who has secured a Trainee Quality Inspector role at Bendalls.

This is a fantastic achievement and reflects the hard work, attitude and commitment Matthew has shown throughout his time with the business so far.

Alongside stepping into this new role and developing new inspection and quality skills, Matthew will also continue working towards completion of his Level 3 Metal Fabrication apprenticeship.

Well done Matthew, and best of luck in your new role!

Last week, we welcomed two students from Trinity School - A Church of England Academy for work experience across different areas of the business.

Finley (right) joined the Engineering team, spending time across Project Management, Design, Machining and Inspection to get a feel for the full manufacturing process. During the week, he also designed and manufactured his own phone holder project from start to finish in our Skills Academy🔧

Bobby (left) spent the week with our IT team, working alongside our IT Project Manager and getting involved in everything from setting up new accounts and rebuilding laptops to overseeing cable installations and day-to-day support 💻

It’s always great to give young people a real insight into industry and the variety of careers available within engineering and manufacturing. A big thank you to everyone across the business who took the time to support them throughout the week 👏

We hope both Finley and Bobby enjoyed their time with us and wish them all the best for the future!

We are pleased to welcome Jade Kelly to our Finance team.

Joining us as a Management Accountant, Jade brings over 10 years of accountancy experience, supported by a strong academic background.
Jade will be working closely with Stephen Cade prior to his departure in August, ensuring a smooth handover as she transitions into full responsibility for managing the NW Total Engineered Solutions management accounts role.

Based at Bendalls, Jade will visit the site regularly to build strong relationships, collaborate with both the local team and NW colleagues, and deliver a robust and high-quality management accounting service.

We are delighted to have Jade on board and look forward to the valuable contribution she will bring to the team.

Jade is pictured below with our Finance Director Matt Whitfield.

We’re pleased to share the successful completion of our recent TÜV audit for BS EN 3834 at Bendalls Engineering.

This result reflects the strong welding quality systems, processes, and standards maintained across the business, alongside the continued commitment, professionalism, and technical expertise of our team.

In safety critical industries, maintaining these standards is essential, providing assurance to our customers and partners of the quality and consistency embedded throughout our operations.

Well done to everyone involved 👏

Over the last 6 weeks, Matthew and Nathan have been taking part in the Sellafield Sprint programme, working to tackle real engineering and operational challenges on the Sellafield site. 👏

Matthew’s group explored how to maintain the quality of diesel within long-term storage tanks, proposing the use of fuel polishers to remove moisture and sediment build-up.

Nathan’s group focused on how to safely remove debris from a high-radiation, minimal-access area, proposing the use of a BROKK remote operated vehicle (ROV) to remotely cut and remove both the grate and debris safely.

Alongside the technical side of the projects, both apprentices highlighted the value of developing their communication, teamwork and creative problem-solving skills throughout the sprint.

💬 Matthew (pic 1 left) said: “I enjoyed meeting new people during the sprint the most and loved every minute of it.”

💬 Nathan (pic 1 right) said: “I gained communication and teamworking skills that may not have been developed in my day-to-day job.”

A great experience for both apprentices and fantastic to see them representing Bendalls Engineering throughout the programme 👏

To celebrate first year apprentices completing their practical training in our Skills Academy and moving into the workshops, welding tutor Jim organised a bowling trip for the group, alongside training support Bryan and Kerrie from HR. 🎳

A great chance for those who could make it to socialise together before starting the next stage of their apprenticeship journey at Bendalls.

Congratulations to Jack for taking the top spot, with Aaron finishing in second place and Bryan securing third place… proving the tutors still have a competitive streak 👀

Good luck to all of our apprentices as they begin their workshop placements and continue developing their practical skills across the business.

We’re proud to celebrate a fantastic achievement by John Irvine, one of our Design Engineers 👏🏼

Having been with us for 7 years, John’s dedication, growth and commitment have been clear every step of the way. After already earning his HND in Mechanical Engineering, and with our full support throughout his continued professional development, he has now successfully completed his Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree, achieving an impressive Upper Second-Class grade.

A great result, and a real reflection of the effort and commitment he’s put in.

Congratulations John, a well deserved success! 💪🏼 (Pictured with Aileen Vollert, Project Engineering Director)

Celebrating two 5-year milestones with us 👏

Charlie Nichols (pic 1, right with Production Manager Barry Gardner) joined us as an apprentice and has grown into a fully qualified Welder Fabricator, building up a strong range of welding qualifications along the way. It’s always a good one to celebrate seeing that full journey from apprentice through to skilled tradesperson 👌

Simon Hayhoe (pic 2, right with Machine Shop Manager Gary Strick), our Machine Shop Foreman, has played a key role in supporting the precision machining team over the years. Alongside that, he’s continued to develop himself too — completing an ILM and taking part in a leadership development residential, bringing that experience back into the business.

Two very different journeys, both equally valued, and both making a real impact across the business.

Thanks both, and congratulations on 5 years 👏

🚀 Now complete: Our new facility extension at Bendalls

We’re pleased to share that our latest extension is now fully complete and officially open.

Designed to deliver the additional floorspace and 14m headroom needed for an upcoming high-profile project, the new space also houses an 80-tonne overhead crane, significantly strengthening our capability for large-scale engineering work.

This investment marks another step forward in ensuring we have the capacity, infrastructure, and flexibility to support our clients and future projects.

The opening was marked with a ribbon cutting by Ben Carter, Sean Saunders and Eric Gasvoda from Cadre Holdings (pic 1 left to right), with the client also in attendance to celebrate the milestone.

A big thank you to Story Contracting Limited for delivering the build, and to RB Electrical Services for completing the electrical works, along with everyone involved in bringing the project to life.
