Has a spaceship just landed in Los Angeles?

After eight years of construction, MAD's extraordinary Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is complete and opens to the public on 22 September.

Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the 300,000 sq ft museum sits in Exposition Park and was designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with Stantec.

The building lifts up over the park, touching the ground at relatively few points, while the huge central arch spans 185 feet. The exterior is then wrapped in more than 1,200 individually shaped curved panels.

Happy 62nd anniversary Forth Road Bridge!

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II opened the Forth Road Bridge on 4th September 1964, on the same day as the last passenger ferry between the North and South
Queensferry.

Today, it is open to pedestrians, cyclists and public transport; and is part of the Forth Bridges Trail.

Now those are some serious balconies…

This apartment building near Piazza delle Muse in Rome was designed by Vincenzo Monaco and Amedeo Luccichenti.

But it's those huge cantilevered balconies that caught my eye. They seem to hang out from the side of the building with very little fuss, getting progressively more dramatic as you look upwards.

Although there's always one question with a cantilever like that…

The final episode of A House Through Time featuring a house on Calton Hill in Edinburgh is broadcast tonight at 9.00pm on BBC 2 although all episodes are already on iPlayer.

The episode follows the Ruggs, who were witnesses to the first German attack on mainland Britain, in October 1939; the Shiels family, whose grandchildren show David a treasure trove of family letters and recall the destruction of the nearby slums; architect Alex Brown, who bought number 22 out of disbelief that the beautiful Georgian house could be threatened; and banjo player JJ Jamieson, who was attached to the city's cultural vibrancy.

Finally, David invites present-day residents Morag and Henrietta to hear about their predecessors in the house. Who will win the bet about how the house was originally built, and what will Henrietta make of number 20 once being run as a brothel?

Charles Rennie Mackintosh's Hill House has been exposed in its naked brickwork for the first time since it was built, in a conservation "milestone" to save the property.

National Trust for Scotland (NTS) said the roughcast removal will now allow experts to make the 122-year-old building watertight.

So if you fancy seeing how it was built, now's your chance to go and take a look.

The Maunsell Sea Forts were constructed in 1942 as army and navy forts to help defend the UK during the Second World War. These metal and concrete structures were decommissioned in the 1950s and some of them had to be dismantled. During the 1960s and the 70s, the remaining sea forts served as pirate radio stations.

Today, only two of the three forts are still standing: the Redsands Fort and the Shivering Sands Fort. Due to its relatively better condition, the Redsands Fort was chosen over the Shivering Sands Fort to be restored in 2003. Nevertheless, both of the forts are in a decaying situation today.
