October is shaping up to be a busy month for the Cambridge Vacuum Engineering team, with three major trade shows on the calendar!

Next week the team will be at Semicon West - Moscone Center (SEMI Americas) in San Francisco. Then later in the month we'll be heading to Greater Noida for The Battery Show India and Las Vegas for FABTECH Expo.

At each of these events we'll be meeting customers and industry partners and showcasing how our advanced hashtag beam and hashtag welding technologies are supporting innovation across a wide range of industries.

From advanced manufacturing and semiconductors to the rapidly evolving battery sector, we’re looking forward to some great conversations and opportunities to connect with people.

What a fantastic evening at the Cambridge Independent Business Awards!

While we didn’t take home the award, we’re incredibly proud to have been Highly Commended and to have received our own special trophy.

Being named a finalist alongside so many other great Cambridge companies is a reflection of the brilliant people who make CVE what it is, and we’re very proud of the culture and team we continue to build together.

A huge congratulations to the Employer of the Year, Gearset, as well as all of last night’s winners and finalists and thank you to the organisers for a great celebration of the Cambridge business community.

Almost three weeks on, we’re reflecting on a fantastic day at the Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival!

Team CVE was delighted to be among the 43 teams who took to the water for a brilliant day of racing, teamwork and fundraising in support of Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust - help make your hospitals even better.

We’re incredibly proud to have raised £1,115 towards the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital, and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored us and supported the team.

Even better, the event as a whole surpassed its £50,000 fundraising target.

UK engineering helping shape the future of nuclear energy

We’re excited to announce a new collaboration between Cambridge Vacuum Engineering (CVE) and Cambridge Atomworks, as we explore how advanced electron beam welding could support the manufacture of its innovative ODIN nuclear micro-reactor.

Cambridge Atomworks is developing a transportable, standalone nuclear reactor designed to provide reliable clean energy for off-grid applications — with an operational prototype targeted for 2031.

Under a new Memorandum of Understanding, our teams will explore how CVE’s electron beam welding expertise, including our innovative Ebflow technology, could help manufacture critical reactor components more efficiently, while meeting the exacting quality, safety and regulatory requirements of the nuclear sector.

It’s an exciting opportunity to bring together two Cambridge companies and demonstrate the role UK engineering and advanced manufacturing can play in the next generation of nuclear energy.

We were delighted to recently welcome colleagues from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) to Cambridge Vacuum Engineering (CVE) for a productive visit focused on strengthening our collaboration and exploring future opportunities for Ebflow electron beam welding technology within the sector.

The discussions reinforced our shared commitment to advancing manufacturing technologies supporting the next generation of nuclear projects, where quality, reliability, and productivity are paramount.

A particular highlight of the visit was the opportunity for the MHI team to witness an electron beam welding demonstration, providing first-hand insight into the precision, repeatability, and efficiency that Ebflow technology can deliver for demanding nuclear applications.

As the global nuclear industry continues to expand, strong partnerships across the supply chain will be essential in delivering innovative manufacturing solutions at scale. We look forward to building on our relationship with MHI and identifying new opportunities to work together in support of future nuclear programmes.

As part of our summer food truck series, we were delighted to welcome the Nomadough team to CVE HQ in Waterbeach.

Based in Saffron Walden, Nomadough produce sourdough flatbreads wrapped around a delicious variety of local ingredients.d Nomadough certainly delivered!

They dish them up alongside amazing coleslaws and crispy new potatoes.

A big thank you to the Nomadough team for joining us and keeping everyone well fed.

We’re taking to the water this weekend for a very special reason!

This Saturday, fourteen members of the CVE team will be swapping engineering for oars as we take part in the 2026 Cambridge Dragon Boat Race - in honour of our much-missed colleague and friend, Tom Aldridge.

We’re incredibly proud to be coming together as a team to remember Tom and take on the challenge in his honour.

We’ve taken part in the race before, so know there will be a healthy dose of competition, lots of teamwork and a few aching arms along the way - but, importantly, it’s an opportunity for us to celebrate Tom and raise money for a cause close to our hearts.
