Repaired a NAD C 320BEE integrated amp.

Fault reported can't select some inputs.

Confirmed the fault reported - replaced failing tactile switches on the front control PCB.
Noted very swollen power filter capacitors (gassing) - replaced with new. Also replaced the usual suspect small electrolytics in the protection circuit and other areas.

Serviced a Linn Kairn pre-amplifier.
Now up for Sale.

Removed top cover for inspection.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. OK. Noted this is a later model with the Brilliant SMPSU module - removed and replaced the 6x small electrolytics within, reinstalled. Checked and analysed other capacitors for distress and leakage - all good.
Checked all DC voltages all present and correct.
Removed the front assembly and it's screening cover for inspection of the circuitry and battery. Noted slight chemical leakage from the battery - extracted the front PCB for attention. Removed the battery and cleaned up the board. Replaced 1x damaged capacitor. Wired in a new battery 3.6V/150mAH NiMH) remotely attached to the screening cover such that further leakage and damage to the board cannot occur. Reassembled for test, checked operation OK.
Checked all inputs and outputs OK.
Checked output voltage, symmetry and channel balance OK.
Concluded all audio and function tests OK, f***ed the cover.

Repaired a McIntosh C52 pre-amp.

Fault reported / work requested:-
Green panel LEDs flickering.

Confirmed the issue reported - failing LEDs
Checked general operation OK before proceeding.
Removed the covers and front assembly for access. Stripped the front assembly and removed the main PCB for rework. Replace all green reverse mounted SMD LEDs in order to maintain reliability. Reassembled for test.
Checked operation OK.
Ref***ed covers.

Repaired and serviced a Laney LH50 guitar amp.

Fault reported:-
General service & health check - not working well, intermittencies, etc.

Removed rear grill and extracted the amp chassis for inspection.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. Checked power resistors, filter capacitors, screen grid and anode resistors OK.
Electrically tested all valves - 1st and 3rd pre-amps reading bad (1st also noisy and microphonic), replaced both with new; 2nd pre-amp, PI and outputs all good.
Checked DC voltages and bias, found very heavy ripple on the B+ supply - suspect C34 power filter capacitor. Removed the main PCB and extracted C34 - confirmed as completely open, f***ed a new 100μF/500V radial electrolytic. Reinstalled the board for continued testing. Voltages and ripple now as expected. Set bias as per service manual.
Noted intermittent/variable buzz especially on the clean channel, traced to the output transformer loose on thecahssis - tightened down satisfactorily.
Checked all pots and jacks functioning correctly.
Checked reverb, loop and footswitching all operating correctly.
Checked output and voltage symmetry OK (77V p-p into a 16Ω resistive load = 46W RMS).
Concluded audio and function checks and tests OK, reassembled.

Repaired and serviced a Fender '57 Custom Deluxe guitar amp.

Fault reported:-
Service; sound deteriorates after about one song!

Removed the rear cover for inspection.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. OK.
Electrically tested all valves OK.
Checked all DC voltages present, cathode bias good at approximately 23V.
Noted nose on both volume controls - suspect DC voltage present and confirmed. Located and replaced 3x leaking "high grade" Fender branded audio coupling capacitors.
Checked operation of all controls OK, now noise free and functioning correctly.
Checked output voltage and symmetry - 30V p-p into an 8Ω reactive load = 14.1W RMS.
Concluded audio and function checks and tests, OK.
Reassembled for final test.

Repaired a Leema Tucana integrated amplifier.

Faults reported/work requested:-
Smoke!

Removed top cover for inspection.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components, solder joints, etc. Noted a noise supressor capacitor catastrophically failed.
Removed the front plate assembly for access, removed the relay/power distribution PCB. Replaced the failed capacitor with new. Reasssembled for test.
Amp powered up OK.
Checked DC voltages all present and correct.
Connected an audio source and loudspeakers, cheked operation OK.
Checked all inputs and outputs OK.
Checked output voltage, symmetry and channel balance OK.
Concluded all audio and function tests OK, f***ed the cover.

Repaired a Patrick Eggle Berlin guitar.

Faults reported/work requested:-
Managed to break the push-pull tone pot, then replaced and didn't get expected results!

Confirmed the fault reported, noted incorrect taper pot f***ed and no ground at the coil split switch.
Removed the pot and replaced with the correct A500k push-pull pot. Rewired to correct wiring plan.
Checked operation OK.

Repaired a SubZero HPA800 headphone distro.

Fault reported/work requested:-
Dead.

Removed top cover for access.
Visual inspection for distressed/degrading components and solder joints, etc. Replaced the blown mains input fuse with new. Powered up with DBT current limiting in place, heavy fault current indicated - traced to failed power trasnsformer (shorted windings). Procured and f***e a new transformer. Normal load now indicated, checked voltages OK. Switched to full wall power for continued testing.
Checked operation with audio OK.
Concluded operation OK, reassembled.
