Part of my job I never get bored of, exercising the stock and testing the cars. I chose to make the most of today’s summer sunshine in this beautiful Bentley S3 Continental, which was very well received by fellow motorists and passers-by. A real head turner.

I have more testing ahead of me this weekend in another very attractive Bentley convertible of a similar but slightly different vintage. More on that to follow.

We are closed on Monday as it’s a national holiday here in the UK, so back at it on Tuesday morning. That just leaves me to wish you a good weekend and happy driving.

It was a long day at Pebble Beach on Concours Sunday, as we were one of the first in line at 5am, staying right through to the best of show award over twelve hours later. The beautiful Bentley S1 Continental we were representing in the concours came away empty handed (we still think you are incredibly beautiful) but the Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental we were also representing picked up two awards, third in class and the Montagu of Beaulieu Award for the best British car in show. It was extremely pleasing to follow up from last years success at Pebble with more silverware in 2026. However, one thing now remains to be achieved with a third and second in class now secured on the toughest stage of all…………..maybe next year.

Now its time to pack my stuff and head home, see you again next year Monterey, it’s been fun.

It’s the countdown to concours Sunday at Pebble Beach and the FD team have been working hard on the two cars we are supporting this week. In between polishing them both we did find time to take a look at a few of the beautiful cars in the Gooding tent next door.

And our second car for Pebble Beach…….Following its recent restoration works by our team, this special 1934 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Continental by Freestone & Webb (Chassis No 47RY) enjoyed an outing along the famous 17-Mile Drive earlier this week, ahead of Sunday’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

We have been working collaboratively on this project with the nice folks at Pendine Historic Cars since last November, thank you James and Tiggy. The work has included a full engine rebuild, extensive cosmetic improvements, and the research, location and installation of the car’s original engine, which had not been fitted for more than 40 years.

We look forward to a memorable Monterey Car Week.

The first of our Pebble Beach cars for 2026 comes in the form of Chassis No BC93BG, a 1957 Bentley S1 Continental Drophead Coupe by Park Ward.

About fifteen years ago, I was closing up the office one Saturday afternoon and just as I was about to lock the doors and go home, the phone rang and a conversation then ensued with a lady in the north of England who was looking to sell her late fathers Bentley. She told me how much she had been offered for the car which I thought sounded a bit low. So, a few days later I arranged to fly up to Newcastle to meet her and to see the car. We agreed on a plan and the car came down to our facility in London shortly afterwards. It was a good, honest car, but was a bit scruffy in places, ideal for restoration.

We sold it a few weeks later (for a much better figure than she had previously been offered) and we were then entrusted with the car’s restoration, in its original colour scheme of regal red with beige leather. A few years later the car was sold by us again, with the new owner instructing an exterior colour change to Brewster green with a matching dark green hood.

A few years later again, in 2019, the car was shown at the RREC Concours where it won Best in Show honours, something we were very proud to achieve.

Fast forward to early 2026 and over the past seven years the car has been toured, enjoyed, and driven regularly by the terrific family who now own it. Some of the lustre of the restoration had understandably faded following the time that had passed and the thousands of miles that it had been driven since. With a Pebble Beach concours acceptance letter in their possession the owners sent the car back to us where it was entrusted to our head of department for post war classics to determine and then carry out the works required to show the car at Pebble Beach a few months later. Kirk and his team did a terrific job getting the car show sharp once again and ready to be shown on the concours field.

I for one cannot wait to take it for a drive along the coastal roads around Monterey next week, the perfect wheels for such an occasion.

This year we will be representing two cars at the Pebble Beach Concours d’ Elegance, a first for our company and something we are very proud of.

Both are special cars with unique back stories of their own, both of which we will tell in the coming days. But before we do, how did they get from sunny Surrey in the UK to Monterey in California?

One went by sea in a container and left several months ago. The second car took a different route, by air. Following completion by our team it went by truck to the airport where it was fitted to a plate, wrapped and protected, then flown to the US. Upon arrival it was unloaded and then trucked to Monterey.

Here is a peek behind the curtain to the process involved.

I can’t wait to see it again in a few days time 😎
