Does your screw compressor sound different compared to when you first got it?

This could be an early sign of rust build up within the compressor element. Screw compressors are designed to run hard and reach proper operating temperatures. When compressors are left standing for long periods or only run lightly, moisture can build up internally and lead to corrosion over time.

The early signs of rust build up can be seen in the images below. In worst-case scenarios, the element can seize completely, leading to costly repairs or even replacement of the compressor itself.

Quite often, simply allowing the compressor to run correctly and regularly is far better than facing the cost of a seized element later down the line.
