HSE has launched a isocyanates awareness campaign and inspections are coming! Are you ready?

Starting this October, inspectors will be visiting motor repair businesses across the UK to assess how effectively they’re protecting workers from exposure to isocyanates. Isocyanates are hazardous chemicals commonly used in manufacturing processes such as coatings, adhesives, and foams. Exposure, especially through inhalation or skin contact, can lead to serious health issues including asthma, respiratory irritation and skin sensitisation. The inspections will focus on whether businesses are managing health risks properly under regulations.

Our solution is Fume Extraction, and we can also LEV Test and do remedials on existing systems that are not compliant. Inspectors will be paying close attention to the quality of spray booth ventilation and extraction systems, the suitability of respiratory protection (such as air-fed breathing apparatus) and the procedures used to ensure booths are safe for re-entry, including the correct calculation and display of clearance times. They’ll also be checking that businesses carry out ongoing health monitoring, including regular health surveillance and biological monitoring, to ensure control measures remain effective and workers stay protected.

At Airmatic, we can provide a solution through Fume Extraction to help your business stay ahead of these requirements. Our team designs and installs high-performance spray booth and extraction systems that meet and exceed HSE standards, helping workshops reduce exposure risks and demonstrate compliance during inspections. We can also support customers through LEV testing and remedials on existing systems that are not compliant.

If your facility is due for inspection, or you simply want peace of mind that your ventilation and protection measures are fully compliant, our experts can help you review, test and optimise your setup. Together, we can make sure your team stays safe, your systems perform efficiently and your business meets every HSE expectation.

Meet the talented team driving Airmatic forward 🚀 Nicola McGuinness-Bell is our Finance Manager, who has built her career from legal and accountancy apprenticeships through to management accounting, bringing a wealth of experience from the construction and manufacturing sector to Airmatic.

‘My career started as a Legal Apprentice at a large law firm in Manchester. After two years, I re-evaluated my position and decided I’d like to follow my passion to become an accountant.

Following my Level 3 Legal Apprenticeship, I decided to study Level 3 AAT as an Accounts Apprentice over the course of 12 months. I then took on a level 7 ACCA Accounts apprenticeship which took a further 3 years. Upon completion of my exams I began undertaking the necessary additional courses and CPD to obtain my practice license, which allows me to submit financial/statutory accounts. I worked in the Financial Accounting sector for just shy of a year, and came to the realisation that I was better suited to Management Accounting.

My Level 3 and Level 7 apprenticeships were undertaken at Global Engineering Ltd, a family firm in the structural steelwork industry. My many years working at Global have given me a fantastic understanding of the construction/manufacturing sector which has allowed me to easily integrate myself into working life at Airmatic.

I applied for the role at Airmatic to further my career and gain more experience at a larger company with more personnel and a more challenging day-to-day experience. I’m grateful to the Airmatic team for welcoming me with open arms and allowing me the opportunity to learn and grow with them.’

The People Behind the Precision 💪 We’re excited to introduce Clarissa Hean, who joined the Airmatic team in December 2024 as a Manufacturing Project Engineer. With a strong background in mechanical design and project management, Clarissa brings a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective to our growing engineering team.

Here’s a bit more about her journey so far:

"I started my journey in the engineering field in 2003 as a 2D draughtsperson for a laser cutting company in South Africa. Over the course of 12 years, I grew into my role and became a trusted and respected team member, valued by both colleagues and customers. That experience opened the door for me to transition into mechanical engineering, where I joined a company that designed, manufactured and installed filling machines for the gas and liquid industry.

In 2018, my family and I relocated to the United Kingdom, where I’ve had the opportunity to work across a range of sectors, from wastewater to the can-making industry. I’ve gained valuable experience working to British Standards and following projects through from concept to completion. With each project, my confidence and capabilities have continued to grow.

I joined Airmatic in December 2024 as a Manufacturing Project Engineer. My role involves leading live projects, supporting leadership efforts on the shop floor and assisting with 3D designs to help finalise incoming sales.

What I appreciate most about working at Airmatic is the freedom to be creative in my role while being supported and guided as I grow. It’s an environment that encourages development, ownership, and innovation which is something I value deeply" - Clarissa Hean - Manufacturing Project Engineer

Behind every great project is a great team and our people are the driving force behind everything we do.

Team Update ⭐️ We are delighted to welcome Darren Roberts to the Airmatic team as our new Operations Manager. He brings a wealth of experience in driving efficiency and leading teams, delivering operational excellence.

"I’ve been in the engineering sector since leaving school in 1994, when I began my apprenticeship at a local family-run firm. After completing my apprenticeship and building up hands-on experience, I took a year out to go backpacking, a great opportunity to gain life experience before diving back into my career.

Over the years, I worked with several companies, each offering new opportunities to develop my skills. I eventually joined Graham Engineering, a specialist in the nuclear sector, where I spent 12 years over two separate periods. I progressed from fabricator welder to supervisor and eventually moved into project management, running contracts for major clients like Sellafield and NRS.

Between my time at Graham, I had my first formal role in project management with Greenbank Technology, a company focused on the canning industry. There, I managed contracts for global clients such as Ball, Canpack, and Crown.

Wanting to challenge myself further, I met the team at Airmatic and immediately saw an exciting opportunity. I jumped at the chance to join as Operations Manager, and I’ve now been here for just over a month. In my role, I oversee the day-to-day running of the workshop and work closely with the wider operations teams to support project delivery and drive continuous improvement. My background in the nuclear sector has helped me bring a process-driven mindset with a strong focus on quality and safety, which I’m proud to apply at Airmatic" - Darren Robers, Operations Manager.

He’s already making a positive impact and we’re excited to have him on board as we continue to grow and innovate.

Welcome to Airmatic Darren! 👏
