Both of our Directors (Geoffrey Beckett & Richard Upton) have recently found time to get out of the office and undertake site visits.

Having said that, it seems something of a fortunate 'coincidence' that both visits took place in glorious weather conditions! Our field-based teams who spend most of their time outside should challenge them to undertake visits next winter... preferably in freezing temperatures and driving hail!

More details, including a recap on their first 18 months at the helm of GRM in our latest online article:

It has been 18 months since Geoff Beckett and Richard Upton became owners of GRM and assumed full responsibility for the leadership and day to day running of the business (see post from Nov 24: GRM Announce Change in Ownership). Since then, GRM has continued to thrive and grow, with our teams suppor...

Our field-based teams are accustomed to working in a wide range of weather conditions, although even by their high tolerance levels the record May temperatures over the past week have been something of a challenge!

This first significant spell of warm weather has resulted in rapidly drying soils which can lead to drying-induced desiccation where cohesive soils are left exposed, for example after topsoil is stripped or where foundation excavations are left open in the hot sun.

The stripping of topsoil prior to the onset of the warmer months can effectively result in the depth of seasonal desiccation becoming deeper, and the exposure of excavated foundation trenches to prolonged periods of hot sun can result in the surfaces of them becoming subject to additional seasonal desiccation.

Where there is a perceived risk of typical minimum depth requirements being insufficient, desiccation testing can be undertaken to confirm the true depth of seasonal desiccation, thus allowing for safe bearing depths to be calculated for proposed structures.

More information and details of the support that GRM can provide is in our latest online article:

The sudden arrival of warmer weather over the last week and progressive increase in temperatures and humidity has been something of a ‘good news turning to bad news’ story for our field-based teams working on a wide range of land development projects! Indeed, over the last few days it has been t...

The team at GRM wanted to wait until Mental Health Awareness Week had finished before sharing our story, as we believe conversations around mental health in the workplace should continue throughout the year.

In our sector, there can still be additional stigma attached to mental health, and Office for National Statistics data shows that male construction workers are three times more likely to die by su***de compared to those working in other industries.

Several years ago, the Directors at GRM recognised the importance of putting robust support systems in place to help employees facing mental health challenges. These initiatives have continued to expand and evolve, and are covered in our latest online article:

Like many businesses, GRM embraced Mental Health Awareness Week and ran a range of initiatives and activities to encourage openness and discussion in the workplace. However, we wanted to wait until the week had finished before sharing our story, as we believe conversations around mental health in th...

Less than a week to go until UKREiiF 2026!

Around 80% of the incoming work for our GRM teams comes from existing clients. However, we are always keen to engage with new developers and landowners, and next week our Business Development Manager, Russell Hurcombe, will be attending The UK’s Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum in Leeds.

Please reach out to Russell if you want to meet up for a chat, coffee or even a beer! His contact details are: [email protected], 07525 270014

And here is a pic of him too - fairly easy to recognise, even amoungst 16,000 other delegates!

There is certainly no let-up in land development work for all the GRM teams at the moment. Our end to end support services allow clients a single point of contact throughout their projects, which saves both time and cost.

One important area is our Site Inspection and Validation services, which are necessary for compliance with designs and planning approval. More information on this is detailed in our latest online article:

Our Site Inspection Team have been working on a wide range of client projects over the last few months, supporting developers and landowners who need experienced and independent professionals to validate and ensure compliance with designs. Our services include: The images below show some clean cappi...

It is rare that we let our Director Richard Upton out on site visits these days... but this week he couldn't resist the opportunity to travel to a client development at this location.

Does anyone know where he is?

A clue, and the reason for his desire to visit, it is the place of his birth - the general area that is, not that specific bush or under the bridge!

This week we gave the team the challenge of taking a photo which gives a nod to GRM and what we do, whilst featuring a creme egg. Selected entries are included in our latest article accessed via the link below.

We also just wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff, clients and contractors for their hard work this year as it’s already shaping up to be a busy one, and we hope everyone has a very enjoyable Easter Bank Holiday weekend!

Our team has been eggs-tremely busy in March, and we are all getting eggs-cited at the prospect of a long weekend. Our engineers and inspectors have been out on site supervising eggs-cavations and eggs-amining ground conditions (otherwise known as trial pitting, window sampling, earthworks supervisi...
