There are few things more satisfying on a market garden than a freshly wheel-hoed bed.

Remember when a few hot days in summer felt like a bonus?

For growers, they can be a bit more complicated these days 😀

Lettuce starts thinking about bolting, seedlings dry out faster than expected, and suddenly you're checking irrigation systems twice a day.

A little preparation before a heatwave arrives can make a big difference.

Mulch, shade, healthy soil and a reliable watering plan all help crops cope when temperatures climb.

Walked the tunnels this morning and somehow the weeds have grown faster than the crops again.

The crops seem to be enjoying the sunshine.

The growers... slightly less so 😀

Anyone else finding the weeds are particularly enthusiastic this year?

They certainly seem to be enjoying the weather 😀

The Blaze Flame Weeder is a great way to knock back young weeds before they become tomorrow's problem.

No blades, no bending over pulling tiny weeds by hand... just a quick pass and move on to something more enjoyable.

Let's be honest, setting weeds on fire is also slightly more satisfying than hand weeding.

The crops are thirsty. The weeds are thriving. Summer has arrived. ☀️

A good irrigation setup won't make the weather cooperate, but it can make life a lot easier.

A few things we're keeping an eye on:

💧 Watering early before the heat kicks in
🌱 Keeping beds mulched where possible
🔍 Checking soil moisture, not just guessing from the surface
🔧 Fixing small leaks before they become bigger problems

Every season is different, but getting water where it's needed (and only where it's needed) usually pays off.
