We also fabricate parts and run a busy workshop which undertakes engineering and repairs. VMCC & Draganfly Young Rider Scheme – Member Spotlight

At Draganfly, we’re proud to be working alongside the Vintage Motorcycle Club to help introduce a new generation to the classic motorcycle world.

Through our Young Rider Scheme, we’ve given 7 young enthusiasts the opportunity to enjoy 12 months of free VMCC membership, with monthly features celebrating their stories and passion for vintage machines.

This month, we’re delighted to spotlight our third winner.

This time it’s...all the way from Japan, Velocette owner Rei Wakatsuki.

Member Spotlight: Rei Wakatsuki

Age: 27

Location: Tokyo, Japan

Machine: 1949 Velocette MAC

How did your journey into classic bikes begin?
I was inspired as a child watching my father and his friends enjoy British motorcycles. The bikes’ unique design and character left a lasting impression on me.

What do you love most about vintage machines?
The design and sound—particularly Nortons with girder forks from the 1930s and ‘40s.

Memorable moments?
After attending classic bike events in Japan, I bought the Velocette when I was 22, marking the start of my own journey into the world of British bikes.

Advice for young riders?
If you want one, don’t wait—buy it and learn. As time goes on, these bikes will become more expensive and the skills will be rarer. We must keep this passion alive.

Member Spotlight: Billy Dampier
Age: 26
Location: Taunton, Somerset
Machine(s): 1954 Ariel NH350 Red Hunter, 1932 Ariel MF (bitza) various early 2000s Hondas.

How did your journey into classic bikes begin?
“I grew up surrounded by old vehicles, spending time tinkering with my grandad. After starting with classic cars, the opportunity to buy back my late grandfather’s Ariel Red Hunter, which sealed my path into vintage motorcycles.”

What do you love most about old bikes?
“As a mechanic, I appreciate the simplicity of old engineering. After working on modern vehicles all day, there’s something deeply satisfying about returning to machines you can fully understand and repair yourself.”

Memorable moments?
“From rebuilding bikes using autojumble finds and eBay parts to restoring family machines, it’s all about blending heritage with hands-on experience.”

Advice for young riders
“Join a club or find someone experienced—if they can’t help, they’ll know someone who can. The classic bike community is one of the most supportive out there.”

🌟 Member Spotlight: Monty Bell

Age: 8
Location: Horncastle, Lincolnshire
Machines: 1918 BSA Model H (sidecar), 1925 AJS Model D

How did you get interested in classic bikes?
“My whole family is into old bikes, and I learnt alongside my Dad, Grandad, and uncles in the family garage.”

What do you love most about old bikes?
“From polishing bikes to learning their history, I really love everything about them. It’s also good sharing that with my friends.”

Memorable moments:
“One of the highlights of the year is the Banbury Run. I started out riding in a sidecar and now ride on the back of my Grandad’s AJS—these bikes are over 100 years older than me!”

Advice for young riders:
“Start young, get involved, and enjoy every moment—especially the riding!”
