I’ve been asked a number of times this week if I’m going to the Fishing Show in Aberdeen next week.

Some of you know, but not all of you that in the last 5 months we’ve been operating with staff levels of a maximum of 75%, but as low as 50% at times.

The plan at the end of 2025 was for us to exhibit at the show, but this was knocked on the head and we had to change and adapt a new strategy for the first half of 2026. Attending the show would have meant a working week of 30% or less, this was simply not on & not viable, so the plan to exhibit was ditched early in 2026.

The time saved & the cost of exhibiting along with exhibiting material and give aways means we are left with the funds put aside.

As previously mentioned, our prices must go up along with everything else that’s going up, but these unused funds will now help us keep our prices at the 2025 levels certainly for the month of May & hopefully into June.

We don’t only hold our prices, we hold the quality & we stick with the same manufacturers. We also keep the standard of our renowned service.

That’s the workhorses tied up and ropes ashore for 2025.

2025 has been such a topsy turvy year. First part of the year was taken up by nursing Janice back to full fitness after she unfortunately broke her leg.

#2025 saw the business I established in 1985 celebrate it’s 40th Anniversary and it was fitting that the Spring saw Karl Thomsen Marine Riggers lift the Fishing News Service supplier of the year award for the whole of the UK and Ireland.

August was fantastic as we celebrated the wedding of my very close nephew Shaun to the lovely Suzanne in Elgin.

The last couple of months have been extremely tough, between being short staffed & the staff present having Flu, Covid or whatever that horrible bug was. But we’ve pulled together, I think we’ve managed 99.99% of what has come our way, it was not easy but very pleasing to see all the work get completed.

All of this could not have been achieved without my loyal staff, headed in production by Karl Junior along with Willie and new trainee Marc. Office stalwarts Eileen and Janice. We are a small team, but each and everyone has responded and risen to the occasion when asked to do so this year.

We managed to keep our prices extremely competitive & that was a minor miracle in this financial climate.

Special mention to all our hard working loyal customers though out the country and Ireland without whom we are nothing. Thank you very very much from the bottom of my heart 👏

Finally, as the ropes are now ashore we are now tied up until Monday 5th January, although I will be knocking about on Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th.

I wish you all a very nice Christmas and I hope 2026 turns out to be a fantastic year for the proud ‘Fishing Industry’.

I have removed the post I put up yesterday.

I wish to point out that in no circumstances was I trying to demean the Silverline Terminal ends. I just could not get my head around how there could be such a difference in the way two terminals could be pressed so differently on the same job.

There are a number of highly reputable companies out there that are more than capable of using the correct terminal ends with the correct dies.

I am sorry for any distress caused.

Earlier this year we said there would be no freebies or give aways during our 40th year, instead we said we would concentrate on freezing or even reducing our prices.

A. Order 24mm or 26mm Compact warp with steel core ( delivery time 8-12 weeks )

B. Get 20 Fathom heavy wire sweeps at a discounted price. We have wire to make up 18 x 20 fathom 36mm Steel core sweeps from stock.

Package 3,

We now have a large quantity of wire cuttings ( end of reels ). Let us make your next set of Ground Gear. If we can use these cuttings we will reduce the price of the Ground Gear accordingly. You may have to be flexible with the section lengths. Let us have your enquiry.

We have some A0, A1 and LD1 red Polyform USA type buoys.

There are some F6 white fenders & A7 large round fenders. Also USA type.

We have a quantity of green polysteel creel rope in 200m & 500m coils. Also we have some White polysteel rope in 500 metre coils.
And we have some 10mm & 12mm multi coloured rope for general purpose or for creel wrapping.
