With UK CBAM coming into effect on 1 January 2027, we are preparing now to ensure the necessary systems and processes are in place.

We are continuing to work with our mills, suppliers and supply chain partners while monitoring HMRC guidance and further information from the UK Government.

Our priority is to ensure that the introduction of the CBAM Surcharge is handled clearly and transparently for our customers.

The introduction of UK CBAM represents a new statutory cost associated with applicable imported steel goods.

Where material supplied by UKF carries a UK CBAM cost, this may be reflected through a separately identified CBAM Surcharge, in addition to the underlying material price.

We understand the importance of transparency when introducing a new charge and will provide further information on how our CBAM Surcharge will operate ahead of implementation.

UK CBAM comes into effect on 1 January 2027.

As the UK prepares for the introduction of CBAM, we are working with our mills, suppliers and supply chain partners to obtain the emissions and verification information required.

Our aim is to operate a fair, transparent and auditable CBAM Surcharge, reflecting the actual CBAM cost attributable to the material we supply.

Rather than applying an arbitrary increase across our entire product range, the surcharge will be applied where relevant and identified separately within our commercial documentation.

The CBAM Surcharge is not a one-size-fits-all charge.

The cost associated with imported material can vary depending on a number of factors, including the type and quantity of material, the manufacturing mill and production route, embodied carbon emissions and the country of production.

Any qualifying carbon price already incurred overseas and the applicable UK CBAM rate will also be taken into account.

This means the surcharge may vary between products and change over time.

From 1 January 2027, applicable imported material supplied by UKF will be subject to a CBAM Surcharge.

Unlike a standard percentage increase, the surcharge is linked to the carbon emissions associated with producing the material.

This means the cost can vary depending on factors such as the material, manufacturing mill, production route, embodied carbon emissions and country of production.

The surcharge may therefore vary between products and change over time.

A new change is coming for businesses purchasing imported stainless steel and other applicable iron and steel products in the UK.

From 1 January 2027, the UK Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) will introduce a carbon cost linked to the embodied emissions of relevant imported materials.

For UKF customers, where applicable, this cost will be reflected through a separately identified CBAM Surcharge on our invoices.

We are preparing now to ensure our systems and processes are ready ahead of implementation.
