Surfacing works will take place on Allt Mor Bridge on Arran’s String Road next week.

A Council contractor is planning to carry out the works on Thursday, 4 June and Friday, 5 June as part of vital, ongoing repairs to the bridge.

A two-day closure is necessary to allow the contractor to carry out the preparatory work and surfacing on the B880 at Allt Mor safely.

The road will be closed for part of the day only, between 9.30am and 3.30pm on both days.

⛔️ STRING ROAD CLOSURE ⛔️

CHANGED DATES FOR TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE - B880 ALLT MOR BRIDGE, ISLE OF ARRAN

MONDAY 13TH APRIL TO FRIDAY 1ST MAY 2026

I would inform you that the dates for the above road closure, which was due to run from Monday 20th April to Friday 8th May 2026 have been CHANGED to Monday 13th April to Friday 1st May 2026. This is to facilitate BRIDGE REPAIR WORKS.

Due to the nature of this, legislation requires that in the interest of safety, this restriction must be put in place for the works duration.

North Ayrshire Council, Neighbourhood Services (Roads) would like to thank you for your patience in this matter.

Should you have any queries please contact Andrew Crawford, Technical Officer, NAC Structures via switchboard on 01294 310000.

It should be noted that it may take up to 48 hours for this road closure information to appear on our website.

⛔ STRING ROAD – STILL CLOSED ⛔

String Road remains closed daily from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

From 3.30pm on the 2nd April until 20th April, the road will reopen, but will be reduced to one lane and managed by two-way traffic lights.

The bridge will be monitored daily throughout this period.

From 20 April:
⛔ FULL 24/7 CLOSURE for approximately 2–3 weeks

What was initially expected to be maintenance works resulted in severe structural damage being found and reported. This has led to more extensive works and as a result, a full closure is required to ensure the safety of all road users.

🚫 We understand this is frustrating; however, road users should please adhere to all road closure signage.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
