EV Charger Safety Tip

If you have an EV charger at home, it’s worth checking that the RCD (Residual Current Device) protecting it is the correct type.

Many older installs use a Type AC RCD, which isn’t suitable for EV charging. EV chargers can produce DC leakage currents that a Type AC won’t detect — meaning the RCD may fail to trip in a fault.

For EV installations, the RCD should be at least a Type A, or ideally a Type B.

It’s a simple detail, but one that’s often missed, and it could make all the difference in safety and compliance.
