Here's an example where speed made all the difference.

A holiday park in North Devon came to us with a failed pump on one of their water slides — with a bank holiday weekend fast approaching and bookings already on the books.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺:

The Original Equipment Manufacturer(OEM) lead time was measured in weeks, not days. For a holiday park heading into one of the busiest weekends of the season, a closed water slide means disappointed families, refund requests, and a serious hit to the guest experience.

🔧 𝟮𝟳 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱, 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗜𝘁 🔧

When a customer got in touch about her sump pump not running, she mentioned it hadn't been serviced in 27 years. That's nearly three decades of quiet, reliable service before it finally called it a day — and it showed our team exactly why regular maintenance matters.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱:
On arrival, the chamber was at high level and the pump wasn't running. A previous electrician suspected the pump was tripping the breaker, so it had already been isolated at the fused spur indoors.

Our engineer got to work testing the system from the spur right through to the junction box in the chamber. The results were conclusive — the pump had failed its insulation resistance test, confirming it was indeed the cause of the tripping breaker.

✅ Tanker & jetter service to safely manage the sump
✅ New single-phase pump specified to match the 2" discharge pipe
✅ New junction box and gel-filled connections for long-term protection
✅ Coordinated with the customer's electrician for a safe, compliant reinstall

𝟮𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗽 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗲!

Mawdsleys Pump Services team came together to clean up the local park and bike trail. 𝗪𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲 𝗯𝗮𝗴𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝘂𝗯𝗯𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭 𝗧𝗩 😄. The team was very happy that we did our little part in helping the environment, but also very saddened by the amount of trash which was lying around.

𝗔 𝗽𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘂𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺'𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺-𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 💪

Our engineers have been on site this week carrying out a full pump and pedestal replacement — new pumps, new pedestals, and adapted pipework, all requiring confined space entry and close coordination with our drainage partners to isolate and empty the wet well safely.

Along the way, the job has thrown a few curveballs:
🔧 Ground conditions meant we had to rethink how the new pedestals are secured — safety and long-term reliability come first, so we paused rather than cut corners.
🔧 While the pumps are now wired, tested, and running smooth and quiet on rotation, we've identified a possible blockage further down the outgoing line — so instead of signing off, our team is going back to properly diagnose it: removing unions, testing flow, and jetting the line if needed to prove the fix before we close the job.

It's a good reminder that a "quick pump swap" often isn't quick at all — and that thorough diagnostics matter more than a fast finish. We'll share the full story once the job's wrapped and everything's flowing exactly as it should.

Recently, our engineering team rolled up their sleeves for a particularly unique project at a large cheese manufacturing facility, showcasing the grit, problem-solving, and confined space expertise our team delivers on every job.

🔍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲
Our brief was straightforward on paper: replace guide rails and test pumps on-site. However, working in a bustling food production environment with complex, interconnected drainage systems—including an adjoining catchment area feeding into the grey water chamber—presented a few logistical hurdles.

🛠️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗱
•Thorough Diagnostics: We conducted full physical and electrical health checks on both pumps. Electrical readings were perfectly balanced with no initial blockages detected.
• Confined Space Entry: Equipped with full PPE and continuous gas monitoring (confirming a safe 20.9% oxygen level and zero harmful gases), our engineer entered the chamber to inspect the soft close non-return valves and troubleshoot a slow discharge flow.
• Collaborative Problem-Solving: Working alongside Alpha Rod, we tackled stubborn downstream blockages by dismantling a Viking Johnson coupling to allow high-pressure jetting further up the discharge line.
• Investigating Infrastructure: Further investigation revealed an adjoining silo pipework featuring a reduced-size gate valve and surface rust—key contributors to the system's sluggish performance that require scheduled remedial attention.

We successfully left the primary pump fully operational while laying the groundwork for upcoming follow-up works, including catchment drainage and guide rail realignment.

Behind the scenes at Mawdsleys Pump Services, our team handles everything from heavy industrial systems to vital domestic water supplies. Nathan and Joe recently completed a fantastic, multi-stage project for a rural domestic customer whose water storage system was severely overdue for some TLC.

🔍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Upon arriving on site, our engineers located the primary Cold Water Storage Tank (CWST) situated at the bottom of the lane, which feeds three holding tanks in the loft space via a submersible pump and 22mm copper pipework. The system was showing its age—complete with an intermittent mercury switch and years of accumulated debris and silt rendering the water undrinkable.

🛠️ 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗱
• System Upgrade: Replaced the faulty mercury switch with a modern, reliable, WRAS-approved float switch and weight for precise level control.
• Deep Clean & Disinfection (Primary Tank): Safely emptied the primary tank using a puddle pump onto adjacent land, wet-vacued the interior, and carried out a controlled Sanisol dosing and 1-hour contact check, monitoring ppm levels until safely flushed and refilled.
• Loft Tank Remediation: Accessed the secondary tanks in the loft space, draining and thoroughly cleaning all three tanks (totalling approx. 750 litres) using specialist sponges and wet-vacs, followed by full disinfection and rigorous water testing.
• Excellence in Action: Took water samples for laboratory delivery and successfully test-ran the entire system through multiple cycles to ensure seamless, reliable operation.

The system was left fully operational, compliant, and providing clean, safe water once again! A brilliant collaborative effort by Nathan and Joe, keeping tenant disruption to an absolute minimum throughout.
