We’re in the process of restoring a Citroen 2CV with a really amazing family connection. The owner has no intention of parting with it in his lifetime and so the main priority in this project brief is to do all we can to give him 40 plus years of happy motoring.
One of the best ways to ensure that with a 2CV, is swapping the rotten original chassis for a galvanised one. Luckily we had one floating about our workshop from another project. It has had some use so we decided to clean, primer and paint it for mainly aesthetic reasons, but also to keep it protected for the most amount of time (galvanised steel does corrode eventually!).
All of the original parts, such as the suspension arms and spring tubes, were cleaned, primered and painted also.
Most of the mechanical parts were replaced where necessary, or stripped, cleaned and rebuilt if possible. From knife edge pivots, shock absorbers, brake shoes and wheel cylinders, driveshafts, track rod ends, kingpins, etc. We have replaced or rebuilt all the mechanical components to give this old 2CV a new lease of life.
It’s now ready and waiting for the freshly painted bodyshell!
