Kempower and APM Terminals have signed a global framework agreement to accelerate the deployment of DC fast-charging infrastructure across APM Terminals' international container terminal network.

The three-year agreement will support the electrification of container handling equipment as APM Terminals continues its journey towards lower-emission, more sustainable port operations.

Pilot projects are already underway in Mexico, Morocco and Peru, where the first battery-electric container handling vehicles are being introduced as part of wider terminal electrification programmes.

As the official sales and aftermarket representative for Kempower across West and Central Africa, Paterson Simons is proud to support the adoption of advanced charging infrastructure solutions throughout the region.

The 7th edition of the AFRICA PORTS FORUM took place in Accra, Ghana, from 19 to 21 May 2026, bringing together key stakeholders from across Africa’s maritime, logistics and port sectors.

The 2026 edition welcomed more than 300 participants from over 30 countries, including port authorities, terminal operators, maritime companies, logistics providers, investors and policymakers. Discussions focused on major topics shaping the future of African ports, including competitiveness, digital transformation, sustainability, regional connectivity and infrastructure financing.

Paterson Simons attended the conference as part of its continued engagement with the ports, terminals and logistics sectors across West and Central Africa. The event provided an excellent opportunity to connect with industry partners, customers and stakeholders while contributing to discussions around the future of African port infrastructure and operations.

🇺🇸 Maximum visibility and operator comfort – the superstructure cab of Grove all-terrain cranes.

The superstructure cab of Grove all-terrain cranes is designed to provide operators with an optimal combination of visibility, comfort, and control. The large front windscreen offers a nearly unrestricted view of the load, significantly reducing blind spots. For additional comfort, the windscreen can be opened to maximize airflow within the cab.

Inside, operators benefit from an ergonomic layout featuring an adjustable seat, thoughtfully designed storage solutions, heating, and optional air conditioning. At the heart of the cab is the Manitowoc Crane Control System (CCS), enabling intuitive and precise crane operation.

In addition, the cab can be tilted up to 20 degrees, providing a clear advantage in terms of visibility and comfort – even with the main boom fully extended and a jib installed.

See a recently spotted Grove GMK6400 All Terrain Crane, from MobiCRANE Limited, operating on an active oil and gas site – a great example of how these machines perform in real-world conditions, where reliability, precision and safety are essential.

This project also highlights the work of Orsam Energies, with all supporting structures and components manufactured locally from scratch – showcasing strong in-country engineering capability alongside world-class lifting equipment.

The Grove GMK6400 is one of the most powerful six-axle all-terrain cranes in its class, offering an impressive 400-tonne lifting capacity, a 60 m main boom, and a maximum tip height of up to 136 m when configured with jib extensions.

Designed for both strength and mobility, it combines high lifting performance with the flexibility to operate across complex and challenging job sites.

Paterson Simons recently completed a specialised Practical Technical Training programme for RTC S.A’s maintenance team in Douala, Cameroon.

Delivered as part of ongoing technical support on RTC Douala’s fleet of Konecranes equipment, the programme focused exclusively on hands-on, on-the-job learning, ensuring technicians gained real-world experience while working directly on live equipment.

Over the course of the programme, the team completed a structured series of practical sessions covering:

· Hydraulic component identification and function

· Hydraulic pressure testing and setting

· Accumulator valve block repair and charging

· Brake system analysis and repair

· Hydraulic circuit diagnostics on RS-series machines

In parallel with the training, Paterson Simons engineers also carried out detailed troubleshooting on machines, including gearbox and transmission fault resolution and the installation and testing of updated Konecranes MD4 software. These interventions ensured that key equipment was returned to optimal working condition while providing valuable learning demonstrations for the trainees.

This combined support-and-training approach allowed RTC S.A’s team to see real-time diagnostic techniques, repair methods, and hydraulic maintenance procedures – further strengthening their capability to manage and maintain equipment safely and efficiently.
