Our much beloved Senior Estimator Chris retired earlier this year after four decades of unwavering dedication to the civil engineering and construction industry.

Since joining the business in 1988, Chris has been a cornerstone of Mackley’s growth, culture, and technical excellence, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped not only the company but also the many individuals fortunate enough to work alongside him.

He invested enormous time and energy into mentoring others, generously sharing his knowledge and experience so much so that many in the industry today credit their professional growth and success to his guidance.

Chris leaves Mackley in an even stronger position than when he joined it. He has helped build not only a highly capable estimating function but also a cohesive, knowledgeable, and forward-thinking team ready to take on increasingly complex challenges.

Thank you Chris for your incredible contribution, it won't be the same without you but we promise to preserve and protect your legacy as you settle into a well-earned retirement.

At Mackley, nothing goes to waste and it's even better when surplus Greenheart timber from our projects can be repurposed by important community groups like Men in Sheds.

Men’s Sheds provide welcoming spaces where people can connect, share skills and work on practical projects together, supporting wellbeing and reducing social isolation. The donated timber will now help support future creations and community activities.

It’s great to know these materials will continue to be used in meaningful ways, supporting hands-on projects, shared skills and stronger community connections.

Happy Friday everyone!

Here’s a lighter moment to end the week, the curious case of the missing Labubu.

After discovering a well-travelled Labubu near her home, our Training Coordinator Raluca launched a Facebook campaign to find the owner. In the meantime, she also took the Labubu on a small Mackley adventure, capturing the journey in a personalised letter to share with its owner once they were located.

We’re pleased to say Labubu has now been safely reunited with its owner and we even received a thoughtful voice note to say thank you.

A great reminder that sometimes it's the small moments that make a big impact.

Throw back Thursday to our Earth Day celebrations when Abbey Fish, Environmental Technician, presented on the origins of Earth Day, why it's so important and some of the things we can do as a business and as individuals to play our part.

This was followed up by a fun activity and civil engineering on a much smaller scale! We constructed a bug hotel outside the front of the office for some multi-legged guests to check in at their leisure.

Our business is built on improving the environment now and for generations to come so we intentionally make space for these moments to reinforce our purpose.

We’re proud to share that we’ve renewed our pledge as a Company Supporter of the Lighthouse Charity for another year 🙌

The Lighthouse Charity provides free, 24/7 emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to construction workers and their families, ensuring that no one has to face challenges alone.

We’ve been pleased to host and take part in Lighthouse Charity initiatives at both our Madeira Terrace and Havant Thicket sites, helping raise awareness of the vital support available to those in our industry.
