With the impending easing of lockdown and others being given a return to work date. Here at Ian Callear Vehicle Repair we thought we would give you some helpful tips you can do at home to get your vehicle ready for your commute.
1. Battery
If your vehicle has not been used for a while your battery will start to lose its charge. You can counter this by starting your car and leaving it to idle for 15 to 20 minutes once a week. Remember to never leave your car unattended and only do this in an open space, never in a garage or somewhere with poor ventilation.
2. Tyres
Check the pressure and condition of all 4 tyres. You can check the pressure with a simple pressure device as shown here https://amzn.to/2X3L7QH or if you want to spend abit more https://amzn.to/3g309iD which has an analogue gauge aswell as a 12v compressor. Having the correct tyre pressure will help you increase your mpg so it's definitely worth checking.
3. Brakes
If your vehicle has been stationary for a long time your brakes can start to seize, we suggest when you're checking your battery also moving your car forwards and backwards slowly. Being careful to not try and move too quickly incase they have become seized and your car jolts forward/backwards if they become free.
4. MOT
The government have stated that
"Your car, van or motorcycleβs MOT expiry date will be extended by 6 months if itβs due on or after 30 March 2020 - but you must keep your vehicle safe to drive."
Keeping your vehicle safe to use on the road should be your highest priority, if you wish for us to check your car over in line with our usual MOT pre check process, we can do this whilst confirming to the governments social distancing guidelines. So please don't hesitate to get in touch.
We hope this has been informative for you and we look forward to seeing you all soon.
Stay safe.
