The RK Bell Group is a third-generation, family-run construction business founded in 1941 and headquartered in Bridgwater, Somerset. Serving the South West of England and South Wales, we deliver high-quality, cost-effective and flexible services across Civil Engineering, Highways, Surfacing, Plant Hire, Transport and Waste Management. We provide a full range of civil engineering services across Infrastructure, Highways, Housing, Commercial, Retail and Domestic sectors. Our experienced teams operate across both public and private sector contracts, including Local Authorities and national developers. Surfacing
Our Surfacing Division specialises in the supply and laying of asphalt surfaces for Highways, Housing Developments, Commercial and Retail Schemes, Local Authorities, Schools, MUGAs and Sports Facilities, Car Parks, Private Roads and Domestic Driveways. Highways
Launched in April 2025, RK Bell Highways is a new specialist division focused on Section 278 (S278) Works, Infrastructure Delivery and Highways Maintenance. We undertake works for National Highways, Local Authorities and Principal Contractors across the South West. Plant Hire & Transport
We offer a broad range of modern, well-maintained plant for hire from 1.5-ton mini diggers to 30-ton heavy excavators, including wheeled and long-reach models. Machines are available either operated (with CPCS-accredited operators) or self-drive. Our plant is supported by an in-house fleet of Low Loaders, Hook Loaders and 8-Wheel Tipper Lorries for material transport and muck-away. Attachments include hydraulic hammers, rock and pile breakers, grapples and specialist buckets. Selected machinery is compatible with biodegradable oils. Waste & Recycling
Our fully licensed Waste Transfer Station produces certified recycled materials in line with WRAP protocol. We supply recycled 6F5, crushed tarmac, screened planings, as-dug and BS3882-compliant topsoil. We accept inert waste and provide on-site loading, tipping and recycling services. A full range of primary and secondary aggregates is available for collection or delivery. Group Structure

For RK BELL GROUP, this means backing local facilities, supporting young people, fundraising or charity work – helping the people and places that make our region stronger.

Matthew Wornell attended the official opening celebration for the refurbished Multi Use Games Area at the YMCA George Williams Centre in Bridgwater, on behalf of Simon Clayson and RK BELL GROUP. Simon supported the project through early survey and advice, helping the wider project team move the refurbishment forward. The upgraded facility will provide a safer space for sport, recreation and community use, supporting local residents, young people staying in YMCA accommodation and sports groups from across the area.

We were also pleased to support Sedgemoor FM with a donation recognising their role as a local community radio station for Bridgwater and the Somerset Levels doing incredible work for the community. During Glenith Eades' visit, we met Dave Englefield, Managing Director of Sedgemoor FM, along with University Centre Somerset Media Content T-Level students Liam Badnell and Leighla Hockey. It was good to see local media creating opportunities for young people to build skills, confidence and real experience.

And finally, well done to our Scott Osborne, who completed the Yorkshire Dales Mighty Hike Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support! Scott originally set a fundraising target of £250 and went on to raise £1,900, more than seven times his original target. He has been recognised as a Top Fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support for the event! Well done Scott! 🎖️

Three different initiatives, the same message - our local businesses have a role to play beyond our commercial worksites. Well done to everyone involved and thank you to our team for continuing to support the causes that matter beyond our day-to-day delivery! 💚

We are pleased to share another EDF's Hinkley Point C feature, this time on the Hinkley Supply Chain portal.

The case study looks at RK BELL GROUP's journey into the nuclear supply chain, from the early stages of Hinkley Point C, including collaboration with Somerset Chamber of Commerce and the formation of the Somerset Infrastructure Alliance, through the nuclear approval process and into long-term delivery on site.

As we mark 85 years as a family business, this is one chapter of our history that reflects the strength of RK Bell today and the success built over generations.

We are proud to see RK BELL GROUP featured as a Local Supplier Case Study in the Hinkley Point C Socio-economic & Environmental Impact Report 2026.

The report recognises RK Bell as a trusted supplier to Hinkley Point C for over a decade and our integral role in the creation of the Somerset Infrastructure Alliance, helping local suppliers access opportunities within the nuclear sector.

Working within one of Europe’s largest & most highly regulated construction projects has driven higher standards and accelerated investment in our machinery, accreditations, workforce development and apprenticeships.

As our Managing Director Nick Bell, says in the report:

Our anniversary celebration brought together colleagues and their families, former employees, customers, civic guests, our event partners and family friends to celebrate this very important milestone with us.

We were honoured to welcome Brigadier Nigel Beacom QVRM TD VR DL, representing His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset; Councillor Richard Wilkins of Somerset Council and David Crew of Somerset Chamber of Commerce. The event was in support of Alzheimer's Society 💙
