We came across this original Jaguar advert for the XJ Series III recently, and one line stood out:

"More Style. More Equipment. More Options. More Jaguar."

It's classic marketing language, but in fairness, Jaguar had a point.

By the time the Series III arrived in 1979, the XJ had already established itself as one of the defining luxury saloons of its era. The updates were subtle rather than dramatic. A revised roofline by Pininfarina, improved visibility, more interior space, and a range that stretched from the dependable 3.4-litre straight-six all the way to the V12.

What is interesting now is how restrained the changes were. Jaguar did not reinvent the XJ. They simply refined a formula they knew worked.

Looking back, that confidence feels quite refreshing.

Do you prefer the earlier Series I and II cars, or is the Series III the XJ at its best?

A classic Jaguar that does not stop properly becomes a car you slowly stop using.

Brakes change the whole character of a car. The confidence you carry into a corner. The way the pedal feels after an hour on the road. Even whether you choose to take the car out at all.

A lot of older Jaguars are still running on tired hydraulics, ageing hoses, or components that technically work, but no longer feel quite right. You notice it gradually. Longer pedal travel. Less confidence in traffic. The car feeling heavier than it should.

At SNG Barratt, our braking range covers everything needed to refresh, rebuild, or uprate your classic Jaguar’s stopping power, from discs and calipers to hoses, cylinders, and fittings.

Because these cars are far better when they are being driven properly, not avoided carefully.

The Jaguar XJ6 C always felt slightly unusual in the XJ range. Lower, longer looking somehow, even though most of the dimensions barely changed from the saloon underneath.

Introduced in the mid-1970s, the XJ-C was Jaguar trying something different. A pillarless coupe based on the Series II XJ, with all four side windows dropping completely away. When they worked properly, which owners will tell you was not always guaranteed, the effect was brilliant. Open, airy, and very unlike most British cars of the period.

It kept the XK straight six, which suited the car better than outright performance ever would have. The XJ-C was never especially sporting for its size, but that was not really the point. It had a calmness to it. Long bonnet ahead of you, thin steering wheel in your hands, and that slightly nose-heavy way old Jaguars settle into faster roads once you stop trying to rush them.

Production only lasted a few years, and rust claimed plenty early on, which is why good cars feel noticeably scarce now compared to standard XJs.

Still one of the more interesting versions of the XJ formula. Not perfect. Probably better for it.

Today, SNG Barratt continues to support XJ-C models with a wide range of parts to help keep these rare Jaguars on the road - https://bit.ly/3PNXDmX

The Jaguar S-Type marked a major turning point for Jaguar at the end of the 1990s.

Introduced in 1999, it brought Jaguar back into the compact executive saloon market for the first time in decades, combining modern engineering with styling cues inspired by the brand’s earlier saloons. The oval grille, quad headlamps, and sweeping lines deliberately referenced the past, but underneath sat an entirely modern platform.

The S-Type introduced a new generation of V6 and V8 engines to the range, delivering smoother performance, improved refinement, and far more responsive handling than many expected from a Jaguar saloon of the period.

This was also one of the first Jaguars developed with a stronger focus on everyday usability. Better weight distribution, advanced electronic systems, and a more driver-focused chassis helped transform how the car behaved on modern roads while still maintaining the comfort and refinement expected of the marque.

What many enthusiasts overlook is how important the S-Type became for Jaguar’s future. It helped bridge the gap between traditional Jaguar values and the more modern direction the company would take in the years that followed.

A retro-inspired design with thoroughly modern intentions underneath.

Today, SNG Barratt continues to support S-Type models with a wide range of parts to help keep these modern Jaguars on the road.

What a day at Great British Jaguar Day.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the SNG Barratt stand at Bicester Motion over the weekend. It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout and spend the day surrounded by so many iconic, rare, and beautifully kept Jaguars.

From E-Types and XKs to XJs and modern performance models, the variety on display was a reminder of just how special the Jaguar community continues to be.

Events like this are what keep the passion alive. Great cars, great conversations, and enthusiasts who genuinely care about keeping these cars on the road.

We appreciate everyone who came over to say hello, browse parts and accessories, or simply talk Jaguars with the team.

Until next time Bicester Motion.

We recently came across this original 1959 advert for the Jaguar XK150 Roadster tucked inside a vintage motoring magazine, and it perfectly captured how Jaguar positioned the XK150 at the time.
“The inheritor of proud tradition.”

By 1959, the XK150 had become the most refined evolution of the XK line. Wider, more capable, and more luxurious than the cars before it, while still retaining the performance and balance that made the XK name so respected.

Disc brakes came as standard, the chassis was strengthened, and the legendary XK straight-six continued to deliver the effortless performance Jaguar was known for.

Classic simplicity. Faultless handling. Supreme luxury.

More than six decades later, the XK150 still lives up to every word.

Behind every great hillclimb is a team that keeps it moving.

From the start line to the final crest, the officials and marshals at Shelsley Walsh are part of what makes The Lucas Classic so special. Guiding cars into position, stewarding the course, and keeping the day running from first light to final flag, their passion and dedication are at the heart of the event.

The noise. The atmosphere. The unforgettable moments. None of it happens without them.
