A couple of spaces left for our final Scythe Course of 2026….

Fairhill Farm, Bridford - EX6 7LQ (20mins west of Exeter) : 12&13th SEPTEMBER

- Day One - setting up your scythe and choosing the right blade, basic mowing techniques for grass and weeds, peening demo, practice mowing with expert tuition

- Day Two - meadow mowing, grassland management, small scale hay making, peening practice with anvil & jig

Last week, We had the pleasure of teaching Dartmoor National Park Youth Rangers & the team at High Heathercombe Centre to Scythe.

Tough drought conditions meant that grass was scarce and tricky to mow with lots of fallen stems. The Youth Rangers were all so engaged and it was inspiring how quickly they all picked up the skills needed for effective mowing.

DNPA Leader Kats Koster-Shadbolt took these fab photos of our day together.

She shared - 'It was a really brilliant day with most of the Dartmoor Youth Rangers saying they would like to come back and do more! None of them had ever done scything before and knew very little about it. The organisation from Jo, Jas, and their teams was excellent - thank you.'

We had a great time & look forward to hopefully seeing some scything on the moor in the not too distant future

Had a very hot but great time at The Bridford Village Fete on Sunday.

Lovely to meet some locals and chat about scything & Fairhill Farm

Didn’t take any photos - so here’s me tackling some Hemlock & Dock with a ditch blade on a wetland meadow (which incidentally is actually very dry at the moment!)
