Last weekend, was our final Scythe Course of 2026 at Fairhill Farm.

It’s been a tough season, with sparse mowing conditions but our fab course participants persisted and picked up the skills they needed to get mowing proficiently and effectively.

They learnt to jig & freehand peen, how to maintain & repair their blades and how to choose the right blade for the job.

One attendee shared this feedback with us -

‘Thank you so much for your hospitality and for revolutionising my scything this weekend. It was wonderfully convivial, not to mention a welcome break away, as well as informative and inspiring.’

If you’d like to learn to Scythe with us in 2027 - drop us a message and you’ll be first to know our course dates

Last week, We had the pleasure of teaching Dartmoor National Park Youth Rangers & the team at High Heathercombe Centre to Scythe.

Tough drought conditions meant that grass was scarce and tricky to mow with lots of fallen stems. The Youth Rangers were all so engaged and it was inspiring how quickly they all picked up the skills needed for effective mowing.

DNPA Leader Kats Koster-Shadbolt took these fab photos of our day together.

She shared - 'It was a really brilliant day with most of the Dartmoor Youth Rangers saying they would like to come back and do more! None of them had ever done scything before and knew very little about it. The organisation from Jo, Jas, and their teams was excellent - thank you.'

We had a great time & look forward to hopefully seeing some scything on the moor in the not too distant future
