Does your Gas fire look as nice as this?? Serviced by myself today but it made me think about carbon monoxide alarms as this customer had one but its was in the hall way.
Open flued appliances (like gas fires) are probably the least checked appliances yet can potentially be the most dangerous.. if you keep your gas fire for 'emergencies' how do you know it is safe to use in that emergency? The very minimum safety precaution would always be a carbon monoxide detector.. not just in the hall or near the boiler but one in the room in which the open flued appliance is situated.. and no the patches that change colour don't work.. you cant see something change colour if your already affected by CO.. it needs to be an audible alarm, 🚨 like a smoke alarm and that way if carbon monoxide levels do start to build your alerted well before it's too late!
Did you know, they also have expiry dates on them so if you think you've had one for longer than 7 years it's likely you need a new one!
Scary stuff but better to be safe!
